Forums - Sony - if sony choose hd dvd the would have won this gen

They made a big mistake with blueray its too expensive, it delayed the launch of the ps3 1 year , 1 1/2 in europe.

Hd dvd is just as good and the capacity is 30 gigs simply put the blueray costed sony this gen.

And the ps3 would have launched at the price of 399 and would be 199 now.

At that bolded part right there, I LOL'd...

I thought HD DVD was 20gb?

15g single layer 30 dual layer.

Look, HDDVD supports MS. Supporting HDDVD would have cost Sony billions in research and development. You think they lost a lot with the ps3? Not even close to what they invested in BR.

Remember, before it came out, BR had been in dev for nearly 10 years. It would have all been lost.

Look at the bright side. Sony will most likely be the only console with an HD disc next gen. Unless MS goes with hologram (not happening) or HDDVD, which is already out of production, and to start it up again would cost nearly as much as BR does now. Except BR drives will likely cost only 50$ next gen.

Blu-ray has the awesome scratch resistant hard coating.

It's spelled Blu-ray BTW and HD DVD.

Xbone... the new "N" word   Apparently I troll MS now | Evidence | Evidence

I though bluray saved the PS3.

WHAT? HD-DVD didn't launch till April '06... blu-ray launched in June. and both launched at similiar price points.

I highly doubt either Nintendo or Microsoft will not have a higher capacity offering for their systems in three years time.

Why would they make their own format when Blu-Ray drives are dirty cheap manufacture in next gen and 50gb is easily enough for games even then.
