Look, HDDVD supports MS. Supporting HDDVD would have cost Sony billions in research and development. You think they lost a lot with the ps3? Not even close to what they invested in BR.
Remember, before it came out, BR had been in dev for nearly 10 years. It would have all been lost.
Look at the bright side. Sony will most likely be the only console with an HD disc next gen. Unless MS goes with hologram (not happening) or HDDVD, which is already out of production, and to start it up again would cost nearly as much as BR does now. Except BR drives will likely cost only 50$ next gen.
