Forums - Sales - Wii Fit vs. PS3 gap less than 2 million!

I suspect Sony mostly ran out of money for marketing. They lost far too much in R & D, it's not a secret the cell and bluray development cost a lot more than expected.

Had they decided to simply pack a PC with a powerful graphic chip and release it earlier, they could have priced it much lower and I think MS wouldn't even be in the gaming business anymore today...

I still think there will be a turnaround and PS3 will finish at least in front of the 360 lifetime, but they made it a lot harder all by themselves.

Balance Board is an add-on peripheral. It's only fair to compare it to the sales of DDR mats.
Does anyone have sales figure that Sony sold their DDR mats for PS3?
Sony makes them mats, right?

Sony doesn't make DDR mats. Also, DDR was more popular during the PS1/PS2 generations.

Wow, that is just embarrassingly brutal... but it fails to convey one thing that makes it even more so:

Nintendo makes money on every Wii Fit sold, whereas Sony loses money on every PS3 sold!

lol

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick

I usually think of Wii Fit as almost equal to Guitar Hero. Even though DDR mats are probably an even better comparison.

This is why I fear for the PS3's future. It's going to be outsold by a single GAME. Not a console, a GAME for a console.

Interesting. Not a big deal really as one is a game and one is a console, but interesting. Shows one of the main reasons why Wii is so damn popular.

I find it more interesting to compare Wii sales on one region to PS360 WW, but this is ok.

Also, Wii Fit will not see a huge dip due to WiiFit+ as it isn't a replacement but more of a compliment and/or expansion per se.

I just wonder how quickly WiiFit+ will sell as the WiiFit userbase buys it. I think I may get it.

@pining : like everybody said, this comparison between a balance board and a console doesn't make much sense.

The 360 should be outsold by Wii Fit one day too. No offense, but I really doubt anybody cares about that funny fact at Sony or MS... It's not like they sell less consoles when it happens.

Or were you just trolling ?

"Everybody said"? Excuse me? The majority of the people here seem to say the opposite.

And nobody is claiming that Sony is trembling in their pants, or well, at least very few people. The point is that this is something rather unique. A game is outselling a major competitor console. That's extremely rare, and to date it's actually unique (if it stays).

Outsell the X360? I doubt it will do that, to be honest. Also, please don't accuse people of trolling just randomly like that. It's both annoying and makes browsing here less fun in general. It doesn't help if something of the same happened to you.

As soon as the PS3 gets its price cut, Wii Fit is doomed!
