The Ipod thing as stated before was just a example. Of course now no company can offer competitors a feature that would bridge the gap of features from the Ipod clones to the Ipod because there aren't any features that set them apart anymore.

The point is that a company offering something that most manufacturers desperately need in order to compete would have great leverage and electronics companies are no exception to this. It happened to PC's and it could happen to any other type of device.

It is definitely a possibility. It's just hard for one company to do so many things that are needed that many different companies speciallize at.

They wouldn't need to do all the things that other companies specialize at. Just supply a feature that those companies desperately need in order to compete. Like with the cell phone business several companies are clambering to duplicate the functionality of the Iphone. You offer them a quick solution to their functionality gap and they'll go by whatever your terms are.
