Forums - General - Why Do People Like Disney So Much?

i don't know what disney ever did for people to start hating on them, i have a ton oof respect for them because of the class they have shown by publishing the great Studio Ghibli movies in the states and not just remaking them and calling it there own. Like all the other studios do with foreign films

i hate the arrogance of some people, "oh dude, if you dont like that, you dont matter" and "this is good, fact, anyone who disagree's is a twat"

i would have thought that something like taste in films was down to personal opinion.

Edit: as for the statement about Nintendo, this will come as a shock to you Onxymeth, there are people on this very forum who dont like Nintendo, personally, i do, but i know there are people who dont, but unlike you, im not gonna imply there wrong or stupid to do so.

You just don't get it. No one cares whether you enjoy Disney movies, even though not liking an entire library of different animated films across vast genres, with hundreds of different characters does seem a bit suspect, but anyways. The point is, how do I explain to you the appeal of something loved by millions across the globe? You should already have the ability to understand the appeal regardless of your personal tastes. I don't like racing simulation games. I do however understand the appeal others have for Gran Turismo, Forza Motorsport, etc. It's your inability to see past your own personal tastes to understand the appeal of these movies that is baffling to me.

Regarding you calling the animation "meh", get real here. You can fail to enjoy Disney movies and yet still appreciate them for the painstaking work that goes into them. Comparing television shows and much of anime that is poorly animated, dipping down to 3 or 4 real frames per second before repeat, repeating animations, poorly colored, penciled and inked, etc. to a Disney feature film with 24 different frames of animation per second at many times and a supposed avergae of 18 FPS, and some of the greatest artists around under scrutiny to create magnificent frames is rather rediculous. Animation pushes forward because Disney pushes it for the medium as a whole. Most everyone else employs the techniques in limited animation, which are cost cutting methods that ultimately cut corners in the animation process.

Music is shit is whatever. We all have our tastes. I do marvel that you can't look past your individual hate for musicals though and try to look at it from the point of other Broadway-style musical numbers and see how it compares. That seems to be the problem with you throughout this topic though, unable to put yourself in the shoes of others.

To go with this statement, I don't understand his point. He asks why do people like disney, and you and Khuutra simply explain why you like or at least have respect for disney and he feels that he has the right to cut down your opinions? It seems a little hypocritical to me.

The thing that I also love is that he easily generalizes all Disney movies as though they are all the same. Very few disney movies are that similar even. I can't compare Aladdin to The Nightmare Before Christmas. Or The Fox & The Hound with Mulan. What I don't understand is why somebody feels that they can generalize every Disney movie as the same. Putting Wall-E or Up in the same category as something Ghibli or one of the early hand drawn animations from Disney even.

He's really just trying to be obnoxious. He presents the topic as a medium to attempt to understand the appeal millions have surely exhibited for Disney films, which he should have been able to understand years ago, when in reality it's his little platform to shit on every discussion point, disregard everything said, call every photo and video presented crap/shit/garbage/etc., and stick a finger into each ear and scream "LALALALA!". He's basically pretending to be ignorant to either get a rise out of everybody or simply get his chance for a full blown rant down the line in this topic.

Basically, this is the same kind of thread as "Why do people like anime?"  or "Why does everyone like RPG's so much". They throw everything on one big pile and say it's all the same ol' same ol'.

Just watch Fantasia and tell me you are not in awe of the painstakingly detailed, hand-drawn images on your screen. Remember that they didn't use computers way back in 1940 (!). I really think it is a piece of art... but then I'm a fan . I even like their box-office bombs from the eighties.(My 'name' King Eidilleg comes from The Black Cauldron after all.)

Oh, don't get me wrong. Disney is pretty much the evil giant corporation, and are at least partially responsible for why copyright law is such an impenetrable quagmire of stupidity. They historically abuse their animators, create bad working conditions, and leverage their money and their prestige to do some really shady stuff.

But they do make wonderful movies.

I cant wait to see High school musical 4 college entry, and Hannah montana the movie 2 miley has a crush

I hope that when SciFiBoy is criticizing the animation, he realizes that most Disney movies were made way before the Simpsons. Take Pinocchio, for example, which was released during World War II (1940).

The worst part is that that doesn't really make a difference, since you'd be hard-pressed to find any hand-drawn movies that looks half as good as Pinnochio today.
