I'd say that for a while, they may support mainly Ninty, since it was only after MS entered the console warz did their domination end, depending on available hardware. Still afterwards they'd probably take the SEGA route and do multi.

And as many will need to come in here and say..."its not ever gonna happen, etc."

By that logic, Sega should have supported Nintendo exclusively as Sony was one of the big reason on why they failed with the Saturn / Dreamcast

No they wouldn´t before Sony entered Nintendo was Sega´s biggest enemy and I am still suprised they actually pot anything on a Nintendo system. The biggest reason Sega went out was themselves Sony only helped making the procedure faster.

Assuming they go third party like Sega, their best option is always multiplatform.

Do you think that Sony still holds a grudge against Nintendo? Nintendo did screw them over back in the early 90's.

Get your facts straight, Sony tried to steal Nintendo´s IP´s and thats why Nintendo backed out of the deal if they didn´t then Sony would own all of Nintendo´s IP´s today. So it was Sony that tried to screw Nintendo when Nintendo hired them for a cd-rom device.

Never heard that part of the story.

If they had to pull out of the console race, then they would have had lose alot of money. If this was the case could see them just selling off most of their 1st party studios. While keeping some of them to work on pc games.

but on topic: they would most likely support Microsoft till the next console generation, and support the newcomer

Know the funny thing about grudges? They're pretty quickly erased when billions of dollars are on the line. Sega had two options when they were forced third party: Hold their grudges and go bankrupt, or develop for Sony and Nintendo, who had kicked them around for 2 and 3 generations (respectively)?

Even CEOs aren't so juvenile as to jeopardize their company because of grudges.

But if I remember correctly when the Xbox first came out Sega supported it with alot of exclusive games. Though I am not sure if Microsoft "moneyhatted" them

Yeah, I remember that. All the games flopped, and they were forced to support the PS2 and Gamecube, where their games were much more successful. At least, if memory serves.

Um can you provide some link? Because as far I was aware, the whole situation of Nintendo backing out stem from media distrubtion with Nintendo uncomfortable with Sony owning the medium the right to distrube (CD) and has nothing to do with IP which would have remained with Nintendo...

So you think the Wii hasn't stolen some market share of the PS3 as well? Shadowblind was singling out MS who are instrumental in bringing Sony to its current position but a large part of the problem was also Sony mismanagement. Sega lost market share to both Nintendo and Sony, but the lionshare whent to Sony, they've also made some terrible bussiness decision, much more so than even Sony.

I'm drawing similiar parallel to counter a similiar situation, not trying to give the correct and up-to-date ananlysis of Sega's downfall :p
