yep. they spent next to nothing on cast and everything on visuals.

Can't wait to watch it.

Even if they zero everything and 100% toward sFX...that is STILL an amazing amount of realistic looking sFX in the movie.  Everything looked real...no crappy adamantium claws like Wolverine's...it's amazing how real the aliens looked, and interacted with humans...pushing and shoving.  I can't wait for this to get on DVD so that I can be able to freeze frame thru the movie.  They are working on Avatar and The Hobbit, as their big upcoming project...

Oh man, I just got back from seeing this and it was off the hook. Blomkamp did an excellent job and this movie is a must see for any Sci-Fi head. I'm going with this for my Movie of the summer(possibly year) and Shadow Complex for my game of the summer, hands down. Go see this movie!!!

Also, there were a couple of halfway decent trailers shown before the flick. The one with the angels (Legion I think) looked pretty good.

I LOVE paying for Xbox Live! I also love that my love for it pisses off so many people.

100 times better than Transformer 2, this movie born from the ashes of Halo is the best film I've seen this years and has put Blomkamp right in the radar for me as a man to watch. On a shoe string budget of 30 million for the amount of GFX we were treated to, and on top of that, the plot was involving and absolutely mind-blowing at time.

Say what you want about it being a shame that Halo was canned due to studio & MS dispute but I'm so glad it happen, because District 9 is an outstanding film that deserve it's time to shine.

5/5

PS None of the trailers comes even close to portraying the meat of the film! Prepare for an expirience you simply won't forget!

^ Dude, I was gonna throw a Transformers comparison in there but I didn't think that Transformers deserved the comparison. That and I didn't want to get the Bay fanboys all riled up. I'm sure MS is kicking themselves in the ass for not securing a deal. Like you said too, the trailers are pretty good but they don't really give too much away. Speaking of trailers, I remember what the other trailer was that looked good. I think it was the 4th kind or something like that, the one about the alien abductions.

It looks very amateur, and the story about quaranteeing aliens like they were refugees or apartheid is politicised and stupid.

I am so happy this guy didn't get to direct Halo. It would have been utter shit with documentary looking shaky cam photography.I read the plot of D-9 at wikipedia, and it was just as clichéd as I guessed from the trailer.

Alien apartheid, political symbolism, big evil corporations exploiting everything, inter-galactical friendship, sympathies from the common people , good guys win etc lol.

It wasn't what I expected and for that reason, I loved it!

And, here's a pro-tip: Don't ever apply for a job at an alien gas station. You'll thank me later.

Is this anything like judging a game before playing it? I have absolutely no problem with people seeing the movie and not liking it. But isn't it common practice on the forum to skewer people who form an oppinion about a game without ever playing it?

To those who actually saw the movie, how did you like the Prawns' weapons? The one that shot the lightning bolt was sick.

Congratulation on making judgement before even seeing the film, it's your lost though so I won't do something so insipid as to argue over personal opinion. Still I urge you to give this film a try, the trailer does not do it justice.

@toadslayer72, my favourite gun was the nail-gun / taser thingy, it was only used once but damn it was cool.

I read Wiki's summary after I saw the movie (it's become a tradition of mine) and let me tell you, it got the facts right but the presentation is what made the movie great.  Even with that summary, the movie will still surprise you.
