Forums - Sales - Does anyone still believe in a major turnaround this gen?

Major as in 360 or PS3 taking the console lead then no.

360 closing the gap on Wii and PS3 still remaining in 3rd place but closing the gap on the xbox possibly.

Wii sells because of motion control; other than that it's just a GameCube.

Trolls have evolved since 2006. Keep with the trends my friend. Now its "Wii cant sell 3rd party games that arent brand name". Before it was "Wii cant sell 3rd party games period". And before that was "Wii was just a trend". Then, "its just two Gamecubes duct taped together." And the very first and most creative (IMO), "it looks like a dildo".

Wii won't be the only console with motion control in 2010. Wii sells because of motion control; other than that it's just a GameCube. I am expecting a shift to HD consoles when PS3 lowers its price and when HD consoles get their motion controls. Suddenly Wii won't be special anymore. 1st, 2nd and 3rd stay where they are.

Yeah, people are only buying the Wii for motion control. Come on.

Well thats certainly the main thing it offers over tis competitors.

marketshares may move around a bit but the ending positions are definitely decided at this point

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler

Ps3 can catch 360 easily.

Ps3 will be supported way longer than 360. Heck, look at Ps2. Still has games coming out and still selling decently.

For example: If MS stops support for 360 in 2012, Ps3 will still be selling well into 2014.

The 360 had a year head start but won't last as long as the Ps3.

Whether the PS360 motion control solutions affect things or not is all down to affordability once they're released. The Wii comes with motion control out of the box and has third party support. The PS360s on the other hand will involve an additional purchase and as a result may not necessarily have a great deal of third party support until the numbers of users owning said solutions makes it financially viable.

The success of the Wii caught the industry by surprise and it's only 2 and a half years after launch that third parties have got their arses in gear to produce quality software imo. The PS360s may have a motion control solution by 2010 but it could be another year or so before third parties start to seriously support it depending on the number of households owning motion control solutions.

And no, I can't see the marketshares changing that much tbh.

Sony does not determine how long the PS3 will stay on the market.  Consumers do.

The reason that the PS2 is still on the market is because consumers decided that it was the winner last generation.  Is the PS3 in the same position as the PS2?  No, not even close.  Just like every other second and third place console, support will dry up once the next generation comes.

I already showed earlier in the thread that it is impossible for the PS3 to catch the 360 before the end of 2011.  Even catching up in 2012 is going to be near impossible.  By that time, the next generation of consoles are going to be on the horizon, and the race for second place will not matter anymore.  If Sony does try and hang on with the PS3, they will be doing it at the expense of the PS4.

and how exactly do you "prove" that it's impossibile?

Because you assume the systems will continue to sell at the same rate they are currently selling?

Because you neglect that there will be huge boosts in Ps3 sales when FFXIII comes out in Japan this winter...when God of War III comes out in March...when GT5 comes out...when there is a price cut...etc.

Seriously. I didn't read through the entire thread and do not intend to. Did you factor any of that into your claims?

To end this silly debate - Ps3 doesnt need to "catch" 360. It's selling at a better rate than 360 in the first 2.5 years. All Ps3 needs to do is stay on the market for a year longer, and considering it came out a year later, it's very likely that it will.

When this gen is all said and done, the gap won't be the same as it is now.
