GamerBytes: Massive Free Update For Death Tank - 13 New Weapons!

Surprise! Death Tank, one of my favourite Xbox live Arcade titles, has just recieved a big, free update featuring 13 new weapons and 10 new, unlockable tank designs.

The update marks the return of some classic weapons from the original Death Tank, such as the Air Strike (a big bombing run) and the hover coil (hover around the screen and annoy your mates), and also brings a ton of new ones too.

Do you like rolling mines? Why not try the rolling NUKE? Stuck in a corner? Why the teleporter is just the thing you're looking for. Guy too hard to hit? Give the orbital laser a shot.

You can also check out the 10 new tanks, which are unlocked by getting certain ranks among your friends, or if you win against the developers in their new weekly competitions!

Remember - this update is completely free, and if you'd like to give the game another shot, remember - the online is free in the trial version for up to an hour!

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

Defense Grid coming September 2

Defense Grid: The Awakening is one of those Xbox Live Arcade games we've known about for a long time but had no idea when it would finally be available. Well, it's just two Wednesdays away, as its official page on Xbox.com has been updated with a September 2 release date. We also now know the price will be a mere $10, which is half what the PC version goes for.

IGN: Castle Crashers New DLC Pack Detailed

Developer The Behemoth updated its blog revealing details on the new Necromantic DLC pack for Castle Crashers.

Following up on the King Pack released earlier this year, the Necromantic Pack will also add two new characters, The Necromancer, with magic that is "pure awesome," and The Cult Minion. A new Dragonhead animal orb is included, and two new weapons, a NG Skull Mace and Chainsaw.

The developer didn't give a release date or price, only saying it's "completely up to Microsoft." Fans can expect to hear more soon, though.

Kunio Series Returns With Downtown Smash Dodgeball

"Kunio" is a classic set of old games made by Technos, including old NES titles like River City Ransom and Super Dodgeball. Early last year it was revealed that a little Japanese indie company Miracle Kidz were working with the original creators of Famicom Kunio titles to create some Kunio fangames. One of them was Downtown Dodgeball, a remake of sorts for Super Dodgeball on the NES and SNES.

Now Miracle Kidz have ported the game over entirely with Downtown Smash Dodgeball, now available on XBL Indie Games. The game is currently sporting an 800MSP price point (which will have to go down in price in October) but the game looks and feels just like the original games, only a lot smoother and in high definition.

Axel & Pixel Heading To XBLA?

It appears that 2K Games are further attempting to get into the realm of digital downloads - but instead of dealing with sport games they're planning on... a point and click adventure?

Both the ESRB and OFLC rating boards have updated with the game being present. The ESRB describes the game as a game where players "guide an artist and his dog through surreal and abstract environments". Players will solve puzzles by using objects, such as mirrors and rocks, to continue through the game.

SEATTLE, Aug. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- PopCap Games, the leading developer and publisher of broadly appealing video games, today announced the upcoming launch of Peggle(TM) Nights on the Xbox LIVE(R) Arcade (XBLA) online service of Microsoft's Xbox 360(R) video game console. "The addictive and fun gameplay of the Peggle franchise translates extremely well when tuned for the XBLA platform," noted Sukhbir Sidhu, co-creator of Peggle and studio chief at PopCap. "Since launching earlier this year, Peggle for XBLA earned top awards from industry critics while taking full advantage of the XBLA multiplayer format to deliver an incredible gameplay experience. Peggle Nights essentially doubles the size of the Peggle XBLA universe for players everywhere."

2K Picks Up P.B. Winterbottom For Xbox Live Arcade

We spoke of 2K Games bringing indie-sounding Axel & Pixel to the Xbox Live Arcade, and now it appears that they're continuing on the same notion by revealing that P.B. Winterbottom is coming to the Xbox Live Arcade in early 2010.

P.B. Winterbottom is a silent movie star and has a love for pie - but he's willing to break through time and space to get more pie.

The game uses mechanics similar to Braid's 'time double' puzzles - various pies can cause Winterbottom to create doubles of himself to open doors or use them as platforms to grab more pie, but has the level structure of N+ or Scribblenauts.

Confusing? Just watch this trailer, or watch the old 1UP Show crew play the game here.

The game was considered for many awards at E3 2008's Indiecade, and will be fleshed out from its original prototype to feature over 80 levels.

P.B. Winterbottom looks rad.

And holy shit @ Super Dodgeball!

Alright, Super Dodgeball, I loved that game. Gonna wait for the price drop though.

Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet interview:

CoreGaming | I've read that the game is planned for release in multiple platforms: how is it like negotiating the game with different manufacturers?

Joseph OLSON | As we're still in negotiations, it's tough to answer this question. We're talking with a lot of different publishers right now and they all have slightly different visions for which platforms our game would appear on. We do wish to put this on as many platforms as makes sense, with the HD platforms (360 and PS3) being the main focus.
