Forums - General - will we ever find aliens?

I was just thinking about the evolution forum. I believe in evolution, and because of that, why isn't there life somewhere else that is as/more intellegent as us. Will we ever meet them, will there be war, is there some government that is galactic? just some questions for you

well, there is a chance that there might have been some life forms on mars a long long time ago but that species got wiped out...it's also possible that the organisms found on mars could be the first step in evolution (which isn't possible anymore on that planet since it can't support life anymore due to the disappearance of water)....i dont think it will happen in our lifetime though...i highly doubt it...but yes, i do believe that there are life forms in other parts of the universe, and that multiple universes exist, and also that even though the life forms don't exist now, they either existed before or will exist in the future...it just seems really impossible to me that in such a big universe with trillions and trillions of planets and moons, we are the only place with life, that's just too far fetched

Yes, and mankind will unite finally so we can have a soul destroying genocidal war with them.

Depends what you define as alien life really.

Basic replicating molecules or perhaps even cells - yes - within our lifetime perhaps.
Complex higher levels of life/intelligent being - yes - not for a very long time, way after we've gone.

The likelihood of intelligent life somewhere in the universe is high, the likelihood of ever making contact with them is low, unless we master some form of FTL space travel or communication

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

As Einstein's Theory of Relativity states, objects that travel near the speed of light have a different rate of time.  You could theoretically travel to the Andromeda Galaxy in a person's lifetime if the spaceship was traveling close to the speed of light, even though people on Earth would experience a time of millions of years.

Yeah, and the likelihood is when they got there they'd be the last humans in existence, so basically we'd be sending out the last humans in existence and that is only if there is sentient life in Galaxy, what if all other sentient life is on the other side of the universe, even in relativistic ships, everyone would be dead by the time that trip was made.  Relativistic travel isn't a feasible form of long range space travel.

And if there were any humans left on earth by the time they got back, they would be completely different due to evolution and even cultural differences.

Proud Sony Rear Admiral

So basically in Star Trek there just fucking with the great millionth Klingon grand kids every time they warp speed? Assuming warp speed is that fast.
