Bad

I'm all for hanging a No Vacancy sign on the statue of liberty.

Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.

Good for the UK economy

Bad for the UK people

England has been full for a very long time.

Immigration in this case is BAD!

In general I'd say it's a good thing, but without a specific situation it's hard to say.

"Now, a fun game should always be easy to understand - you should be able to take one look at it and know what you have to do straight away. It should be so well constructed that you can tell at a glance what your goal is and, even if you don’t succeed, you’ll blame yourself rather than the game. Moreover, the people standing around watching the game have also got to be able to enjoy it." - Shiggy

I think that the UK needs a policy reform on immigration because much of it seems illogical. But I do believe that immigration has benefits that far outweigh the deficits.

So, yes.

Good, free immigration combined with free trade is always a good thing, as it provides reduced costs of labor for business, larger tax base, immigrants tend to be younger therefore they can support an aging population

Ask yourself why Japan has a zero immigration policy - despite having one of the lowest birth rates in the world!

It's because they see their society and culture as somewhat fragile, there would be too much turmoil and problems with immigrants. They want to preserve their culture.

My dad lived and worked in Japan for about 5 years. I don't think he did them any harm lol.

If you are talking only legal immigration, then good. But with legal immigration, you limit the number of people immigrating. If you mean open legal immigration, then I say bad.

I find it ironic that a guy who espouses the free market and business and the lack of government, is opposed to free legal immigration, are you also opposed to free trade?

Is it a coincidence that Japan's economy has been stuck in neutral for over a decade?

Yes and no. It has nothing to do with immigration or not, but a low birth rate in a nation is usually a marker for a some kind of stagnation in a society but on other levels.

You know that the U.S. would have a negative birth rate if it wasn't for immigrants right?

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

Put me down for others.

I believe immigration is used by government for a myriad of instances. Of which might be considered beneficial to some, and a hinderance to others. Some examples in the previous posts have already been explained.

Cultural protection, birth rate, labour market supply, age demographics, etc. will undoubtably be affected and can be somewhat controlled via immigration.
