Forums - General - VGC Poll: Immigration

@ O.P> you need to be more specific in your definition of immigration. Are you talking about non limited immigration, or having quotas? I for one am for the latter, however, as a general rule I am for it.

A comment about the myth that immigration is economically so good for a country.

Why is it always like this then:
(this is UK data)

"In Great Britain, in 2004, 58.9% of people of working age from ethnic minorities were in
employment
, compared to 74.6% of the working age population as a whole."
(switch the numbers and u'll find out that 41.1% of immigrants are living (leeching) on the work of others, compared to 25.4% of the pop as a whole (and if we exlucde the minorities from the total number, it would drop to 22% living off of others)

Taken from this report by the "COMMISSION FOR RACIAL EQUALITY": http://cre.gov.uk/downloads/factfile01_employment_and_ethnicity.pdf

We don't need immigrants! Not even as labour force.

its called institutional discrimination, we all know it goes on, your figures are also from 2004, five years ago, so may be inacurate for 2009.

also that is for people of ethnic minorities, not immigrants, many are UK citizens, that just tells me that we need to make sure they get a good education and the ability to get jobs.

What a cliché reply.

This is how it goes.

1. Social democrats/liberals/commies take in a bunch of immigrants & asylum seekers claiming they enrich the society

2. Critics find out that immigrants are leeches without work, living on well-fare, having old culture habits where mother stays home with children etc etc

3. Liberals blame it on racism (or any other more intricate word that still puts the blame on us white/Western people. You seem to call it "institutionalized discriminitation", here in Sweden it's called "structural discrimination". Because even liberals sometimes realize that u can't win debates by putting the racist tag on everyone)

Well, the racism argument is of course a made up blatant lie, but lets pretend that the cause for such a low working rate among immigrants was in fact racism - then that is still an argument against immigration. Because after three decades of immigration, why havent these behavioural patterns changed? Fact is then that it is a myth that "immigrants are good for the economy cause they are in working age"- no matter if the cause is racism or other!

But you are just another dishonest liberal.

(and if u had read the report u would have discovered that the minorities from the colonies, people that have stayed in Britain for over 50 years or so, have employment rates that are almost as high as the medium, and a lot higher than the average for minorities, suggesting that racism has not much to do with it)

Immigration is the best thing a country can have. At one point, the U.S. had 1/3 the population the U.K. has now, and it was a bajillion times as big in land mass. Now look at the U.S. It's kicking ass! Well, disregarding the whole recession and trillions of debt, but it was doing pretty well for a while.

seriously, you ignore half my points, then call me a liar.

if people are racist, they need to grow up and we need to educate them better.

if racism is an issue, then we address it by saying to companies that discriminate, you cant do that.

if people struggle to find work, we create more jobs for them, and give them help with education and training.

Should should should should. You're just talking about your utopia.

Modern day immigrants to Western Europe (over 2 million people every year!) aren't like the sturdy hard working Koreans that came to the USA and started their own lil business and took care of themselves.

You say many things that are wrong with the system, should be changed, racism and discrimination is bad etc.

But can't ur mind be a lil flexible? The world aint like that, UK aint like that yet, and it wont be (yet). Immigrations causes friction, racism, discrimation, assimilation promlems, whatever you label it as.

I was arguing that it's a myth that immigrants (in Western Europe at least) are great labour worker and strengthen the economy.

Even if the reason was racism, my statement is still 100 % true!

In SciFiBoy's world a liberal just snaps his finger and oiulà - 3 million new jobs were created for the immigrants in the UK!

we should aspire to atleast tackle thoose problems though, you dont even seem to want to do that.

its not a myth, even the report you linked to said 58% were working and benefiting the ecenomy, many of thoose that arent may well be in education or training aswell.

the last sentence is nonsense, at no point have i said that jobs for them would come out of thin air.

you tell me to be flexible, when you dont want any immigrants at all, even when that report says atleast 58% are a benefit to the ecenomy.

I will agree with Slimebeast on one thing: The Koreans kick ass. There are a good number in Maryland, and they're just the best.

Im not gonna give a serious reply if u say stuff like "at least 58% are a benefit to the economy" without mentioning the 42% that are a burden.
