I disagree with that statement. Mario Kart is 100x more fun with motion controls. I tried going back to analog stick & i was bored out of my mind. Everything feels like it was going in slow motion.
Also, don't forget action games / beat 'em ups. Imagine how stale No More Heroes would have been with traditional controls. |
I agree with your examples. I meant motion controls make driving games the same on a technical level but I do like them better with motion. Still, I can't point at a reason why using a Wii Remote is better for driving other than it is more fun. The Excite games and Mario Kart are great examples, the are much more fun with motion than using a Analog controller but I can't say the controls are much better technically.
Whereas, RTS, FPS, TPS, and Sports games like PES all benefit from the increased accuracy of IR controls. They are faster paced, more accurate, or have more depth. I know there are no examples of an RTS with pointer controls but PES is basically a proof of concept for when one finally does come. TPS is represented quite nicely with Scarface however, I wish there were a better example... Anyone saying dual analog is better for FPS are just crazy, MP3 and TCon pretty much prove it. The IGN editors agree with me on this too.
I can't say I see where platformers, fighters, or action/adventure benefit that greatly from motion but I do agree that they add immersion (fun) in games like Godfather, No More Heroes, and Punch-Out!!.
I can't see how motion/IR help games like Smash, Zelda, Galaxy at all though... Hopefully WM+ will change this...
