Forums - Sony - Sony Not Playing 'Catch Up' with Xbox Live Anymore

2) And I disagree. I like my web browser on PS3.

3) I disagree. I like Home, you've got many games already on it. I don't like avatars, maybe because I'm 30.

4) yeah, so much for huge scale battles. All you have to do is make bigger maps and objectives, so I think you're wrong. 64 players resistance 2 was quite fun to play. And MAG could be the first game to really look like a battlefield.

7) I don't need videos, I have a better experience with Blueray, and I can rent a DVD if I don't want a Blueray.
I have all the youtube I need or music or radios for free on my PS3 browser, so I don't know what you mean. Plus, like you said, if I want a radio I don't need my game console.

About downtime I mean like today for example when BF1943 was unavailable on Live and working on PSN. I generally experience more downtime on Live than on PSN. Same thing for the lag, it could be due to the lack of dedicated servers on Live, I don't know. What I know is P2P doesn't work that well when there are many players, that could explain why you're so limited in the number of players in FPS on 360.

On the accounts, well all we know is the numbers that were released were greater on PSN, but maybe you're right, I don't know. It sounds logical to me there are more FREE PSN accounts than Live paying accounts.

PSN is bigger then XBL now. No matter how many alt accounts you count. Because each of those accounts can do online gaming. Meanwhile let's pretend there are no alt accounts for XBL even though people make alt accounts for a free month of Gold all the time. You think people are making alt PSN accounts so they can get free PSN?

Yes.  For the same reason people make Alt accounts on XBL.  To take advantage of games by giving you a new character but the skills of someone at a much higher level.

And I don't think you understand what I said.  Microsoft has 20 million XBL "active" accounts within the last 30 days.  People just using the 1 month free would obviously expire after 30 days and not be counted.  If Microsoft released figures the same way Sony did, it would truly show how XBL always was and always will be far larger (counting both Gold and Silver).

Good for you, it's still a pointless and less convenient addition than just using the browser on your laptop or PC.

3) I disagree. I like Home, you've got many games already on it. I don't like avatars, maybe because I'm 30.

I don't see how this refutes my claim that the majority of PSN users ignore Home and don't want/need it.  I get that you like it, but that doesn't change the fact that the majority doesn't.

4) yeah, so much for huge scale battles. All you have to do is make bigger maps and objectives, so I think you're wrong. 64 players resistance 2 was quite fun to play. And MAG could be the first game to really look like a battlefield.

Once again, the number of players is not limited by XBL or PSN.  It is a game decision.  And the whole FPS is best with 16 players or less is a majority oppinion.  All you have to do is look at the number of games with lower player numbers and higher sales than the games with higher player numbers. What do you not understand? I am not giving my personal opinion, I'm giving the majority opinion.  The demand for games like MAG is incredibly small in comparison to the standard Shooter with 16 players or less.  Maybe that's why Resistance and Killzone sold much less than the usual shooter on 360 because the majority of shooter fans prefer the smaller size battles.  Large battles always degrade to a mesy cluster-frack with no coordination.

7) I don't need videos, I have a better experience with Blueray, and I can rent a DVD if I don't want a Blueray.

Your radio only gets you a few local stations, your web browser with youtube gets you low quality, limited to non-copyrighted materials.  With Last.fm, Netflix, and Zune, I get everything at the most convenient source playing out of the best speakers in my house.

Again, number of players is not a trait of the network service, but of the developers game design decision.  XBL is not limited to small matches, people would just rather play those.

The issue with BF1943 was because the 360 version had tons more players than the PSN version.  They didn't have enough dedicated servers setup to handle the load because the 360 version just sold way better than the PSN counterpart.  That's why yesterday and today it was having issues because they are still adding servers to meet the overwhelming demand that is "active users" on XBL

On the accounts, well all we know is the numbers that were released were greater on PSN, but maybe you're right, I don't know. It sounds logical to me there are more FREE PSN accounts than Live paying accounts.

There are more Free PSN accounts than Live Gold accounts.  I never once challenged that logic.

Why count silver though they can't play games online (unless you wanna grasp at straws with a last gen MMO). EVERY PSN account can do online gaming for free. Basicly that means there are 3 times as many online gaming accounts on PSN as there are for XBL, period.

Wrong.  Because not every PSN account actually plays online gaming.  In fact a large portion of them don't, just as Silver accounts don't.  And silver accounts can still download items from marketplace, and do everything except play online, which they can even do that for free on occasion.  Luckily for MS they offer such great added features that many Silver accounts do make the upgrade and boy is it well worth the benefits over any "Free" networking service.

2) you still like radios on your game consoles, which I have too on my browser, so I'm not sure I understand what you like / dislike on a game console. Radios are useful but not a web browser ? Or do you just like what MS gives and hate what they don't give you ?

3) I think more and more users will want it. There are already dozens of games on it, poker and chess tables are full, and more and more games can be launched from Home

4) And once again, P2P greatly limit the number of players you can have together. Dedicated servers work much better with great number of people

I doubt the demand is smaller for huge scale battles, because that's what MMORPGs give (warhammer online, wow too) and they're hugely successful. There is coordination if the map is big enough AND you've got mecanisms planned for that.

7) yeah, while nothing netflix gives you is blueray quality, so yeah... I keep blueray and a web browser

7b) I don't care what the issue was this time on Live. I'm not working for MS, I'm a customer and it was down. PSN was up and it's free.

Everyone I know is switching from XBL to PSN not the other way around. You have no clue, I mean you have no idea whatsoever how many PSN accounts are inactive, but you do know with absolute certianty that those 20 million XBL silver members are not participating in online gaming. They simply cannot play until they fork over some cash. There's nothing to debate here.

I like using the better options.  Radio on a console being broadcast through my home theater speakers with any channel I want is better than local radio in mono-channel or stereo audio via a home radio or low quality web radio with limited content.  Just like I use a browser on a PC where it is the best broswer with the most compatibility and speed.

3) I think more and more users will want it. There are already dozens of games on it, poker and chess tables are full, and more and more games can be launched from Home.

This still does not address what I am saying.  You are speculating, but still not actually commenting on the fact that the majority of PSN users don't care for Home.  Even of the like 6 million that did download it, only 1-2 million even still use it occasionally.

4) And once again, P2P greatly limit the number of players you can have together. Dedicated servers work much better with great number of people

And once again, the number of players is not determined by the network service.  XBL and PSN don't decide the amount of players than can be used, the developers do.  XBL is not a P2P network, that's just what most of it's games use since they usually have low player counts (the most favorite kind of FPS).  XBL can use Dedicated servers just as easily as PSN can and has for a few games in the past including Left 4 Dead, Frontline, and most EA games.

I doubt the demand is smaller for huge scale battles, because that's what MMORPGs give (warhammer online, wow too) and they're hugely successful. There is coordination if the map is big enough AND you've got mecanisms planned for that.

I didn't realize Warhammer Online and WoW were FPS games... *facepalm*  Also in MMO's you are battling the computer following a preset objective, not battling other players in huge 200 person battles with always varying objectives.  The demand for an FPS like this is much much smaller than the demand for an FPS game with 16 players or less.  Admit it.  It's a simple undeniable fact based on the sales and online activity of such games.

7) yeah, while nothing netflix gives you is blueray quality, so yeah... I keep blueray and a web browser

1080p and 5.1 surround sound thanks to new 1080 Instand On say hello.  Sure it's not "as good" as Blu-Ray bet a heck of a lot more convenient and it's only a matter of time until these services are better than Blu-Ray.

7b) I don't care what the issue was this time on Live. I'm not working for MS, I'm a customer and it was down. PSN was up and it's free

I'm glad you can have a shallow victory in the fact that the PSN has much less users interested in the games you play.  To me that sounds like a negative since I like to have as many people to play with as possible.  Also, this did not bring down all of XBL, just that one game.  XBL was up so I still played other great games.  Once they add more servers I'll play BF1943 with even more players!  Yeah!

That's odd.  Everyone I know is switching to XBL because they are getting rid of PS3's in favor of the more dominant service and console which has the majority of their friends on it.  You are right I have no idea how many of PSN accounts are inactive, but based on all the evidence I see each and every day I can make a very safe guess that on PSN the amount of active users playing online is about the same if not less than the amount of XBL gold members.  You have no idea how many are active, so you can't say they are all playing either.  There really is nothing to debate, I agree, it's just you don't seem to understand these very simple things.

Oh and it's not 20 million XBL Silver members.  It's 20 million ACTIVE XBL Gold AND Silver members.  Of that about 12-13 million are active Gold members (55-60%).  Now if we included all the inactive Silver and Gold accounts, there is likely close to 20 million Gold Accounts alone on XBL.

See everyone I know is trading in there PS3's and getting 360's. Just because the people around you are probably swayed by your opinion does not and never will make you right. He is debating that you are wrong about the amount of active PSN acounts, and he wins that battle. Simple because you have no clue how many people are using there PSN acounts online if ever. Hell I got 2 of them and ive never owned a PS3 or PSP. Just because you dont want to admit your wrong and point out that he is wrong also does not make you right.
