Forums - Sony - Sony Not Playing 'Catch Up' with Xbox Live Anymore

@ XanderZane great points, XBL is definately better than PSN.

@Xander :

1) Too bad, Vidzone is great with tons of Sony exclusive content you can't find easily on TV. Of course Sony is a music corp.

2) I like having a browser on my PS3, I can access every website including this one, or twitter, or youtube, anything. It's amazing something as simple is not available on 360 while you pay for it.

3) Your loss, there are plenty of nice games and spaces. E3 was shown nearly Live there too.

4) they are MMORPG, I mean 64+ people on FPS, in maps. There's no such thing on Live, there are those on PSN. 256 players with MAG too. Too bad for FPS fans who like the 360 (they're very numerous).

5) Yes I care. The last thing I want to see when I come back from work is tons of ads on my screen, especially if I pay for that.

6) Trophies are mandatory in any game like on 360. It's been more than 1 year that it's true. I guess you don't have a PS3, but please don't tell lies.

7) You pay for Live on top of your electricity, on top of your provider. YOU're the one paying too much on Live.

Feel free to discuss.

1) I haven't even seen any Music Video one on PSN. I can just turn on MTV if I want that and it's 100x's better.

2) M$ purposely doesn't want a browser on their game console. It's a GAME CONSOLE (play games), not a COMPUTER. Sony wants everyone to believe their PS3 is everything (computer, media player, game console, grill, etc..)

3) That goodness M$ will never create a HOME environment. It sucks. I can play poker on XBox Live.

4) FF XI is more then 64 players. Champions online will be more then 64 players too. So no, you're wrong.

5) Ad what?!?!? Do we care?

6) Trophies aren't in every game or every PSN Arcade game, Achievements are in EVERY game on the XBox 360. Acheivements win easily.

7) Online is never free. If you pay for your ISP, it's NOT FREE. So yes you pay something just like everyone else.

Responding to the greeen:

Why then did MS spend 45 minutes talking about video streaming, HULU, Twitter and Faceboox on XBL at E3 then....

Good question, steroid... I guess it's bad only if it's Sony.

Lets see... browser on PC or browser on a console.  Browser with full compatibility for all websites (flash, java, shockwave, etc) or broswer with limited compatibilities.  Browser using keyboard and mouse and very fast loading times or browser with controller and slow typing and slow loading....  Hmm.....

3) Your loss, there are plenty of nice games and spaces. E3 was shown nearly Live there too.

Nearly Live?  You mean like 12 hours later is nearly Live?    Home is not for everyone.  That's why the majority of PSN users don't touch it.

4) they are MMORPG, I mean 64+ people on FPS, in maps. There's no such thing on Live, there are those on PSN. 256 players with MAG too. Too bad for FPS fans who like the 360 (they're very numerous).

Most FPS games are best with 16 or less players.  The community that likes larger scale games is much smaller.  Also, this is not a trait of the PSN, but a trait of the developers.  Any game on 360 could be made to have 256 players if the developers wanted to.  There just isn't any demand for this type of game and I really don't see MAG selling to more than 1 million people.  Any game on XBL can use dedicated servers if the developers want it to.

5) Yes I care. The last thing I want to see when I come back from work is tons of ads on my screen, especially if I pay for that.

Trophies are not mandatory.  There are many games since Trophies were released that do not have trophies.

7) You pay for Live on top of your electricity, on top of your provider. YOU're the one paying too much on Live.

I guess I feel that having Netflix streaming to my HDTV, Last.fm free radio stations, 1080p streaming, party chat/video, the largest on demand marketplace, a smoother more refined networking experience, playing with more of my friends, better support for patches and a superior matchmaking service are all worth that measely $3.50 a month.  I mean all I gotta do is not drink coffee for one day and I'm good

Feel free to discuss.

By the way, is this seriously ANOTHER Tim_Duncan/Tony_Parker?

Dude, am only saying give SEGA some credit (they deserve it) XD

You dont need to prove that to me (lol). I fucking loved Sega. It was the only brand that gave first party in almost every genre and they ended up being quality. Sega did things not even Nintendo could do. What Nintendo did better than Sega was creating interesting characters, while Segas were generic.

Dont really understand what you mean here but Vidzone is fairly good, as is Youtube for videos. Forgive me if i misunderstood.

2) M$ purposely doesn't want a browser on their game console. It's a GAME CONSOLE (play games), not a COMPUTER. Sony wants everyone to believe their PS3 is everything (computer, media player, game console, grill, etc..)

Because although gaming is the primary function of a console, the above you mentioned is also vital in giving costomers the ability to do all that great additional stuff.

3) That goodness M$ will never create a HOME environment. It sucks. I can play poker on XBox Live.

It allows users to pay/waste money which helps to provide a free service for Playstation users.

4) FF XI is more then 64 players. Champions online will be more then 64 players too. So no, you're wrong.

You could say that they have even amounts of players in the future but thats the future, at the moment PSN allows more players in certain games than the 360.

5) Ad what?!?!? Do we care?

Alot of people think having to pay for XBL means there shouldnt be any adverts because among other things you are paying to keep all that stuff off.

6) Trophies aren't in every game or every PSN Arcade game, Achievements are in EVERY game on the XBox 360. Acheivements win easily.

Newly recently implemented, games are being patched with trophies on almost a weekly basis.

7) Online is never free. If you pay for your ISP, it's NOT FREE. So yes you pay something just like everyone else.

That is stupid as i could just say i pay for my internet connection once wheras you pay for it twice.

And right after Tim_Duncan was banned, whoops here is Tony_Parker.  And all 3 names now have come from the same basketball team.  I'm sending this to Torillian.

TheTruth : Please enlighten me, apart from cross game voice chat (incoming on PSN, I won't use it anyway), what exactly is so great on Live except paying a fee ?

- No Vidzone (Sony music free video clips, awesome when friends are here)

- No Web Browser (I guess they thought IE was not good enough)

- No Home (nice social network, I play poker every 2 days on EA Home Space with people from everywhere in the world, that's great, there's like 20+ spaces already on Home)

- No 64+ players game because Live is mostly P2P (MAG will allow 256 players)

- Adverts

- Trophies > Achievements (levelling, kinds of trophies...)

Live definitely has some things better than PSN, and some other things worse (see above).

I don't see what would make me pay for something I already have for free, and in some way better.

1) I haven't even seen any Music Video one on PSN. I can just turn on MTV if I want that and it's 100x's better.

Response to 4). for xander

FFXI isn't under XBL. The XBL users log into Square Enix servers so you cant really count it as a valid point since the PS2 does this and the PS3 can do this under PS2 emulation of FFXI.

Xbox could have dedicated servers if the developers wanted it, so far not many do. Anyways 4). is invalid, just wanted to point that out.
