Forums - Sony - Sony Not Playing 'Catch Up' with Xbox Live Anymore

@sardauk : yeah, and we know you are a die-hard MS fanboy, no need to remind us ... ;)

I wouldn't say die-hard (I used to own a PS2 and I own a PS3), but this console is my preferred one so far... for sure.

Evan Wells (Uncharted 2): I think the differences that you see between any two games has much more to do with the developer than whether it’s on the Xbox or PS3.

PSN is an awesome free interface, and contains a great amount of services for being free, however, it will never catch up to Live. It took me less than an hour to navigate all of PSN's offerings. Live is massive in comparison and offers so much content, downloads, services, that PSN will be hard pressed to ever catch up.

TheTruth : Please enlighten me, apart from cross game voice chat (incoming on PSN, I won't use it anyway), what exactly is so great on Live except paying a fee ?

- No Vidzone (Sony music free video clips, awesome when friends are here)

- No Web Browser (I guess they thought IE was not good enough)

- No Home (nice social network, I play poker every 2 days on EA Home Space with people from everywhere in the world, that's great, there's like 20+ spaces already on Home)

- No 64+ players game because Live is mostly P2P (MAG will allow 256 players)

- Adverts

- Trophies > Achievements (levelling, kinds of trophies...)

Live definitely has some things better than PSN, and some other things worse (see above).

I don't see what would make me pay for something I already have for free, and in some way better.

@S.T.A.G.E.

Dude, am only saying give SEGA some credit (they deserve it) XD

Why do you need a web browser on a console?
Got bored with the one on my Wii very quickly.
1vs100 has 101 players so thats more than 64+
Don't need second life. If I wanted it I would install it on my pc.
Achievements>Trophies for me but that one is personal choice so you can't pass your opinion of as the truth for everyone.
Are you saying that adverts are a good thing now? or still under the mistaken impression that live is full of them....
or has them?

Basically you haven't given any reason why PSN is better and all but probably one that involve's it's main use... Blu-ray /jk
Gaming.

Those won't really enhance my gaming experience.

These services are different and attract different people. XBL may be more feature heavy and superior for those who value online gaming. I can also understand how many who don't value online gaming may not even care about most of those features let alone having pay for them.

Are you seriously comparing 1vs100 to the technical difficulties of getting 64 players in a FPS (Resistance 2)? Seems to me that you're picking at straws. The rest are personal opinion so fair do.

As for the web browser, I think it could be useful if you could access it in-game (which Sony haven't done yet, if ever) as it would allow you to check walkthrough if you get stuck :P

Yeah 1vs100 is not a real online game, otherwise I can play Buzz Quiz TV with thousands of people on PSN who made a quiz for me. There's no FPS with 64 players on Live like Resistance 2 on PSN, or 256 players like MAG. Fact.

About ads, I already said there are ads on live and they were bothering me, there are none on PSN. So it's definitely a minus for Live for me.

I have trouble understanding how someone could prefer achievement to trophies too, considering the second one is like the first with additional things (differences in trophies kind vs always a similar point total, player levelling and experience vs nothing), but okay...

Sony can say all they want. They still have some catching up to do. They showed group (parties) to launch into games together first. MS got in there first, and made it easier. Cross Game Invites, Working voice chat in all games (MLB is still wonky for god sakes), friends lis support in all games. Still not done Sony. Get it fixed already

They have a long ways to go still. Their online support is basically game to game. Whereas XBox Live, you know all the games are fully support and have pretty much the same online quality with all the features. With PSN, one game may have voice support and another may not. The connectivity depends on each developer. Sony says they have more users registered for PSN, but more then 1/2 of them are rarely on PSN. I have downloaded some games off of Playstation Store. It was painfully slow. I downloaded High Velocity Bowling, Flow and that Puppet Kung Fu game. Took almost 2 hours it seems to download. With XBox Live I could have did it in about 30mins or less. I won't even talk about HOME. What a waste of time. This was suppose to be Sony's way of generating extra money using micromanagement within HOME. I was bored to death in their. Lots of kids talking smack and hitting on females. Waste of time.

I don't see what would make me pay for something I already have for free, and in some way better.

1) I haven't even seen any Music Video one on PSN. I can just turn on MTV if I want that and it's 100x's better.

2) M$ purposely doesn't want a browser on their game console. It's a GAME CONSOLE (play games), not a COMPUTER. Sony wants everyone to believe their PS3 is everything (computer, media player, game console, grill, etc..)

3) That goodness M$ will never create a HOME environment. It sucks. I can play poker on XBox Live.

4) FF XI is more then 64 players. Champions online will be more then 64 players too. So no, you're wrong.

5) Ad what?!?!? Do we care?

6) Trophies aren't in every game or every PSN Arcade game, Achievements are in EVERY game on the XBox 360. Acheivements win easily.

7) Online is never free. If you pay for your ISP, it's NOT FREE. So yes you pay something just like everyone else.
