Forums - Microsoft - Year of the Xbox 360

^^ok, i gotta ask. What the hell does the word grip means??? English is not my first language, that's why i am asking.

Around the Network

Grip in the sense carl used it means to get a hold of. Get a hold of something or hold something. In this case he's using it kind of figuratively as to say: get a hold of reality.

The way he worded the phrase alludes to the word reality or a similar word to complete the literal phrase: get a hold of.

I hope I helped. The way I described is ok. Perhaps I could do better but got no time.

Let me be the first to start this soon to be f-up thread with saying that Spliter Cell and Left 4 Dead cant be in a "The Year of" list since they're not exclusives.

So you basicly have Halo, Forza, a DLC and a XBLA game. Not to say that the first two isnt strong contenders for a "The Year of"-motivation.

How are they not Exclusive...Are you going to be playing on PS3 or Wii?

Microsoft has two Platforms....Xbox 360 and Windows......They are exclusive since you can't play L4D or L4D2 without Microsoft

/Fail

The thread is about Xbox 360 exclusives, not Microsoft exclusives.

If the thread was called "Year of the Xbox 360 (consoles only)" then MAFKKA would be wrong.

But as L4D2 and SC:C will both be on PC (and probably much, much better than the 360 versions) he has a point.

EDIT: I said Alan Wake and meant Splinter Cell.

Most of what he said. Though i still strongly feel that any game that is also on PC is not an exclusive. And this new "console exclusive" is just a way to spin things so they sound better.

The same can be said about stating that certain games aren't exclusive because they are on the pc. The fact of the matter is that the PC is not a console and does not compete with consoles. So a game being console exclusive is much more relevant than a game which isnt exclusive simply because it's on the PC. The pc also does not affect sales of 360 games or deter from the advantage 360 attains from having good IPs that the other two consoles don't.

Afterall, 360 exclusives (or 'microsoft exclusives') sell extremely well on the 360. Therefore, why make such a fuss about a game being being on the pc? Honestly, a game being exclusive to 1 console and a handheld is more important than a console exclusive being on pc, and even then a handheld/1 console exclusive is still irrelevant.

The stupid "it's not exclusive to 360" statement is a misunderstanding of how gaming universe function at best and trolling at worst.

Twisting words. Its a machine that plays games, just like all the rest. Specially these days when high def TVs is well adopted and the connectivity between PCs and LCDs are as easy as connecting a Game Console to the TV. An exclusive is on one product and one product alone. So that if id really want to play an exclusive game i'd have to buy the product of which i could play it on. And since most people own a computer these days all "console exclusives" can just be pirated and played for free. Or downloaded via likes of Steam and be played with friends in a much more userfriendly way than a console. Hence the value of a "console exclusive" is about as much "worth" as a multiplatform title when trying to argue that a certain machine has better game value, when everybody can play that game to begin with.

You can call it a "multiplatform exclusive" if you want! But to try to add value to the 360 alone when a game is released on multiple platforms, is just a way for users to strengthen their belief that their product was the best purchase.

And on the matter of the PC not competing with the consoles is just false. If the 360 had true exclusives with games like Gears of War, L4D1, L4D2, Spliter Cell etc etc.. it would add more reasons to why one would pick up a 360 rather then just playing them cheaper on the PC.

And didt MS release the Xbox to begin with just because they felt that the console market was threatening the PC gaming market!?

If games that are also on the pc were truly that important why do 360 'exclusives' sell so well in spite of the fact? Why would MS allow for this if it hurt their other product? Why do you bring that silly kool aid in here about everybody owning a pc? AND? 9 out of 10 of those PCs cannot adequately game.

Also how is gaming on a pc cheaper and more convinient than gaming on a console? Please don't say the games are cheaper because when on the pc that's the least of your worries. Most people don't have the knowledge to upgrade their PC adequately to make it a gaming pc neither are they hardcore enough to want to do it. You have to throw some money to upgrade it and then do it again at least 1.5x a year. Most people don't know how to do this.  Also even the cheapest DIY gaming PCs cutting 1000 corners aren't cheaper than a console and specifically a 360.

To game a consoles you don't have to know squat about computers, all you have to know is how to plug in cables. How PC gaming is more convinient escapes me...

ps. PCs are machines that CAN play games. It doesn't mean that they neccesarily do. The fact of the matter is that PC's primary function is not gaming. Hence, they don't compete with consoles.

You're not capable of seeing this objectivly so i wont even bother. Have fun.

It appears that the only people that give a rats ass about a 360 game going to pc are people on the interwebz. As MS doesn't particularly care as they have published many a game to the 360 and PC.

But don't pc games come a lot later then xbox ones? Isn't that a reason alone why it's best to own an xbox instead of just your pc. You also need to keep upgrading your pc which is more expensive then buying an xbox360... If you own a ps3 then you don't need an xbox360, but if you own an xbox360 there is little to no reason to also own a ps3 unless you're a very hardcore gamer. Or you could just be rich or a big fanboy of some exclusive franchise on the console.

Why do you guys keep fighting over this? Just relax, all consoles have their ups and downs. Is that so hard to accept?
