I've seen thousands of movies throughout my lifetime and I liked a lot of them so its impossible for me to narrow it down to my top five. If you narrowed it down to genres, decades or a specific year I could come up with a top five list without any problems.

1. Schindlers List
2. Saving Private Ryan
3. Fearless
4. Fist of Legend
5. Tommy Boy

I've watched most of the films in my list multiple times, apart from let the right one in which hasnt seen a DVD release in the UK yet D:, soon though!

I'll never get bored of watching pan's labyrinth.

I know i'll end up watching Let the Right One in many times....Did you read the book? The book's end sequence was so much more twisted & horrific than the movie's. Love the book, love the movie though.

I've just bought the book recently, haven't got around to reading it yet. I hear it delves alot more into eli's past,  cant wait!

Like a lot of people here, I have a problem with just settling on 5. So, here's an assortment of fave movies, in no particular order:

* The Princess Bride
* The Goonies
* 12 Angry Men (original)
* Shaolin Soccer
* Network
* Groundhog Day
* Glory
* Dr. Strangelove
* Clue
* Romeo and Juliet (Luhrmann)
* The Muppet Movie
* The Great Escape
* and many, many more...

Best list so far

Shawshank Redemption(my favorite movie)
Pulp Fiction(great cinemotography and way they present the plot)
Saving Private Ryan(great action film, great plot, and very emotional)
Schindler's List(only film to make me cry)
Silence of the Lamb(greatest "horror" film ever and great acting by Jodie Foster and Antony Hopkins)

It's too hard to narrow it down to just a top 5.

But I'm pretty certain that Lord of the Rings, Contact and Braveheart would be in my all time top 5.

Also, I think it's hard to rank movies from very different genres. Like historical epic versus crime drama for example - it's hard to decide if Braveheart is better than Scarface because it's so apples vs oranges.

Wow.  Contact was an absolutely brilliant film & hardly anyone ever brings it up.  Much respect for that.

Finally someone else who appreciates Contact! Thanks for replying and telling that. Much respect to u 2!

(i dont recognize even a third of the films from ur list though lol)

1. The Matrix Trilogy (YES, the whole three movies)
2. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (Suprise!)
3. It gets too hard at that point with all the movies I've seen.
