Forums - Nintendo - DS gets books-on-cartridge

http://www.siliconera.com/2007/10/02/the-ds-turned-into-an-e-book-reader/

Genius Sonority is putting 100 books into a single cartridge and packaging it for sale in Japan. You use the stylus to turn pages. It also allows you to download abridged classics on to your DS.

Hmm why not manga's on cartridges, even better, game manga's. There are enough around.

Oh good grief.  If the DS started carrying Manga in Japan and it could do it cheaply enough to rival paperbacks... it really would start printing money.

Definitely not a bad idea. I would buy graphic novels on DS cartridges if they had some decent slide animation, like the MGS thing for PSP.

As for books, I suppose it depends on what books they were...if this ever left Japan of course.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

I assume that if this succeeds Manga is around the corner.

I really wish they would make more interactive novels like Hotel Dusk.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

...print "more" money you mean.. *lol*

Yeah me too Benkenobi, normal books not really, I'm in general not a book reader to begin with, I'd rather have a manga or a graphic novel

Ey?? Maybe an idea for Jason Rubin and his Iron and the Maiden book, to create a graphic novel for a handheld, that would be hilarious.

I don't get the appeal. Why would people want to read a novel on a DS? Books are far easier to read from.

Which is easier, carrying around a stack of books to read or a few DS cartridges?

This is doubly true for things like manga where it's easily possible to read an entire book in under 30 minutes.

Yeah but they take a whoooooole lot more space, especially 100 books, comparing to one little, lousy cartridge. Plus you don't have to drag around a big book of 500+ pages, just a small DS hand-held is a lot easier to carry around ;) It saves space, a lot of hassle and the books will never get dirty :P

The only drawback is that unlike the DS you dont have to recharge your book in the middle of a road trip. On a longer novel say 400+ pages you would probably have to do several recharges to get through. Although if its just text and maybe simple pictures you wouldnt be using much power besides the back light.
