Forums - Gaming - Square Enix Europe formed, takes publisher duties from Eidos

http://computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=219021

"Square Enix has announced the creation of a new entity, Square Enix Europe, to publish all games in Europe by Eidos and itself.

The most famous name in Britsoft will still exist as a developer, but its publishing days appear to be over.

Though current Eidos CEO Phil Rogers will head up the new operation, with John Yamamoto still head of Square Enix in North America, job losses are expected on both sides of the Atlantic. No cuts have been announced yet, however.

The move completes Square Enix's absorption of Eidos, driven by an interest in its global portfolio of developers, and its hit franchises such as Tomb Raider, Deus Ex and Hitman. The acquisition was completed in April at a cost of £84million for the Japanese company.

A press release at the time 'confirmed' that "the Eidos brand will continue to be the brand identity for the business." But if the business in question was publishing games, it seems Square Enix had other ideas."

That's interesting, I wonder if it means that more SE titles will be coming to Europe, or just faster than before, if any change at all.

Hmm, I wonder why Persona 4, Atlus game, was published by Square-Enix in Europe o.O (and Ubisoft in Australia)

Because Atlus doesn't have a European branch..?

And Square-Enix had it? o.O
Even FF games were (I think) published by SCE in Europe.

I'm guessing the Batman game will help Eidos somewhat, but I thought it was being published by Warner Brothers or something................

Yeah, they've had for some time. This new thingy though, is not just SE but also Eidos and all the games its developers create, which I assume is why they wanted to make this "merger".

Oh my bad, I only have FF X at home, but that was still SquareSoft. Dragon Quest VIII and FF XII were both published by SE. Didn't know they publish in Europe as well.

maybe it's the same thing that happened with Battlestations Pacific (and probably Midway): Co-published by Eidos Inc. and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment

I hope this means the games will get proper post-release support, BSP is all about getting money from customers via DLC without patching the game, which is crippled with CTD.

the words above were backed by NUCLEAR WEAPONS!

so next Tomb Raider and all future SE/Eidos games for 75€ confirmed?

Waron your making no sense
