Forums - Nintendo - New Wii User here, questions ahoy!!

My bro got a Wii for his birthday (today, 7 years of age w00t and what not), so when everyone is away, I'll be able to use it :D primarily to play Wii Sports (I think I'm one of the few people who love that game) and eventually Wii Fit (I actually intended to use it to maintain fitness).

Okay, on to the question.

I REALLY want to play "My life as a King" but it tells me it's 1500 points...what's that in £s?

Can we get points card in Uk? If so where? What types?

Supposedly I need to buy an SD card...as I know nothing about those...anyone car to shed some light?

Is there a particular size/type I should look at for?

Can I get demos? Ideally, I want to try MLasaK before I buy it.

And last for now, any good Sonic games out there on the Wii? My bro is a MASSSIVE Sonic fan so I want to buy him one for his birthday, what comes recommended?

Don't know, In the US 100 points = $1. I don't know if it is the same for the UK, but it looks to be so based on amazon.co.uk in the used section (which would really be people reselling unused cards) http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nintendo-Points-Card-2000-Wii/dp/B001TOQ8KC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1246975716&sr=8-1

You don't NEED an SD card and I wouldn't suggest buying one until after you run out of space. You have 512MB internal memory which has been more than enough for me so far (you can check out my complete VC/WiiWare and disc based game collection in my profile) If you really need an SD card 1 or 2 GB should be more than enough and buy whatever cheap brand you can find as speed doesn't really matter.

There are only demos for DS games through the Nintendo Channel (which can be downloaded through the Shop Channel)

No, Sonic has sucked since Sonic 3, but if you insist on buying one ask RolStoppable or another Sonic supporter as I'm fairly sure he has played all of them.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

Also, a lot of people round here love Wii sports

oh, and I have EA Sports Active and Wii Fit and if I had to choose only 1 for fitness I'd choose EA Sports Active but it really depends on what you want to get out of the game.

Hey Ajescent,

1st question:
100 Wii points= £0.69

If you convert it directly from the normal U.S. price, which 100 Wii points = $1.
You can get cards with points on them at most major stores.
You can also just get points on the Wii Shop Channel if you have a credit card.

2. You don't really 'need' an SD card so I would put that at the back of the list.
You only need one when you fill up your Wii storage which takes a couple games ;)
Basically just get a decent SDHC one, the Wii supports up to 32 GB. (i believe)

3. Sorry but I don't think they do demos yet. However, everything about My Life as a king looks amazing and the reviews are very positive. Its probably worth the shot if you like the concept.

4. Hmmm... Sonic is not my 'specialty' but there are a couple of the classic Sonic games on the Virtual Console so that would be a good place to start. There is also Sonic and the Secret Rings and Sonic Unleashed which have widely varying reviews.

Let me know if you want any other suggestions for games to get and any specific genres ;)

So out of EA and Wii fit, which comes recommended? I should point out I don't have a balance board, can I get EA with a balance board?

EA Active doesn't come with a balance board, but it does support it. If you want a balance board you would have to buy Wii Fit or wait till Wii Fit Plus.

People say that EA Active is more like an excercise regime that makes you work out a lot. Wii fit is more laid back, though it does have difficult excercises too, the thing is that it makes you wait while you change excercises and even when you just want to repeat the same one... In the end is up to you, do you want a game that keeps track of your weight and balance with some excercise and games or do you want to excercise like a madman?

You can only get the Balance Board bundled with Wii Fit (or possibly used by itself). EA Sports Active only uses the balance board for enhancing some exercises. So for the volleyball exercise you have to lunch and then hit the ball compared to just standing still. Or for the inline skating, you have to stand on 1 foot to miss bales of hay rather than jumping off of ramps. I like having the balance board due to it adding side lunges to your exercises, but you won't be missing a lot.

If you are looking for more Yoga/Balance exercises get Wii Fit. If you are looking for more Areobic exercises go with Sports Active. In terms of strength training, both are faily equal, but EA Sports Active has no push-ups or real crunches, but does provide resistance band exercises (which I would suggest you replace with a tougher one). Either  way I'd add some extra upper body strength exercises to your workout. If you are looking to lose weight, I'd suggest EA Sports Active as it makes working out easier and has more cardio. If you just want to maintain weight, then Wii Fit does come with the balance board and is capable of tracking your weight.

Both sound really good actually, might have to shop around for a deal to get me both.

Does anyone know if GAME sells pointcards? (what are the official names for them?)
