Forums - Gaming - Fallout 3 Build Critique(potential perk spoilers, NO story discussion)

Hey guys. I made a new Fallout 3 female character, and hoped some of the vets here could critique my 2nd playthrough build that I have started. I'm thinking of writing a guild. Here it is:

Rate my level 1-20 build/suggestive guide beta

Thinking of tweaking this w forum suggestions and filling it on out. Rate it(please explain your reasonings), give suggestions. Let’s call it the Beta.

Strength – 4/10----------(6/w ant/bobble/--------8/w armor)

Perception – 5------------(6/w bobble)

Endurance – 7------------(8/w bobble)

Charisma 1/10------------(2/w bobble)

Intelligence – 9/10---------(10/bobble)

Agility – 7-----------(8/w bobble)

Luck – 7----------(8/w bobble)

40 total

Important skills:

Explosives 30w first level up(for quests)

Small Guns - 100

Speech - 100

Lockpick - 95(100w 101 suit)-----(only in increments of 25)

Repair – 100

Sneak – 100

Security - 95(100w 101 suit)

Perks(Note: Avoid any perks related to radiation, or experience)

Non-optional path suggestions:

  1. Gun Nut – Helps you increase your Small Arms early on, and you will need it. You are headed to Rachet city, as soon as you hit the landscape. The plan is to get your Intelligence bobble asap, to maximize efficiency from your skill points. This perk synergizes with your high luck/endurance/agility out of the gate endurance to give you survivability early on, since you will probably be tracking down your bobbles asap. Truth is, this is a filler perk. Nothing better is available.
  2. Black Widow – You’re going to be swimming in skill points anyway, by end game(level 30), and despite the very few practical uses of this talents, it might have future uses in DLC, and while this talent will never be great, it is better than Intense Training, if for no other reason, you get all of your SPECIAL points maxed out with a single talent later on. By level 30(or higher), you won’t need skill points, and your SPECIAL will probably be maxed out. You will, however, have Black Widow if you took it. Also, it could potentially keep you from having to spend points in explosives to finish the Burke quest. Truth is, it’s about as worthless as a second helping of Gun Nut, but you might as well diversify.
  3. Action Boy
  4. Stealth Running

That’s all I’ve got so far. Any good?

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

Leveling up speech is foolish (Sorry about the bluntness here), those points could be valuably used for other things such as different weapons specialties. I have 100 on both plasma and small guns for instance.

This is because there is a workaround to speech, get it anywhere in-between 25-50 which will give you generally decent percentages, then save before key speech points, and retry as many times as needed for success, tedious? Sure it is, but it will pay off. I have basically a juggernaut character touting both Fawkes and Charon(Equipped with full T51b Power Armor) atm and I will post my specs for you once I look them and record them.

I thought some speech options wouldn't appear unless you hit 100.

Hmm, wasn't aware of this, either way, I see you have the expansion to Level 30 (Im on PS3 so I am currently restricted to 20) so the points shouldn't really be a problem anyways. I would however recommend getting your energy weapons to 100 for the obvious reasons.

I hear that you can get almost entirely maxed out by level 30, so I'm sure that after level 20, I'll need something to put those points in. In the main game, all the guides say the energy weapons suck. I never used them in my 1st playthrough. I hear the Terrible Shotgun is the best weapon in the game....just like IRL.

Shotguns are the most devestating close range weapon ever devised by man. A 12 gauge Remington Express 00 Buckshot is the equivelant of putting 15 .40 S&W handgun rounds into someone in one shot. Terrible shotgun indeed. :D

Well you see, I am a VATS sniper on my character so shotguns dont come that in handy with me, I tend to level an entire room in vats before they notice haha.

But Energy Weapons in general are horrible, but certain Energy Weapons are incredible, I almost only use them.

The one I mainly use is A3-21's Plasma Rifle (Unique Plasma Rifle you get from The Replicated Man quest from Harkness, there is an exploit where you can get both his Rifle and the Perk), 2.5% Critical Multiplier, and when you have the Perks such as the Better Criticals perk, literally almost every other shot is a critical hit, also the rifle is extremely durable. Maxed out, with max energy weapons it does 50 per hit, its a beast weapon for sure. Also, even tough I don't really use it that much, you have the Alien Blaster and the Firelance (Unique Alien Blaster) which can take most things down in one hit and each shot is a critical hit.

Also, even though it isn't an energy weapon, if you want you always have Vengeance (Unique Gatling Laser) which is my favorite weapon in the game, it mows down opponents so easy its laughable, it sucks in VATS though, but outside of VATS it's literally just as effective as a Sniper Rifle.

Oh and I almost forgot, you also have the Tesla cannon, formidably crazy ass weapon in Broken Steel, haven't used it myself since I am on the PS3 but I hear its quite the force to be reckoned with.

Once you get Broken Steel and the new level 30 cap, optimal level 20 builds aren't so optimal.

Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.
 — Pat Buchanan – A Republic, Not an Empire

Now I use the Man Opener most of the time. It takes down almost everything with one VATS hit and I don't even have Melee Weapons that high.

I'm mostly based in Sneak, plus Silent Running.

@Op
I'm going to offer a different perspective than "is this good" :)

See in an RPG like FO the real experience of the game isn't how to advance or what you can do, but more importantly what you can't. Playing FO3 again is about playing it to either perfect or enjoy a different experience. Considering RPG are suppose to be about the experience and FO3 is one of the rare RPG that let you do this. I will say this instead.

Make your character based on a youth of how you want to experience the game. Do you want to see it more like Lando Calrisean(social)? Altair(sneaky)? Conan(broad but strong)? Mad Max(combat survivalist)? some kind of scientest or something different altogether.

Bethesda has brought such a extremely rare opportunity with FO3. It should be experienced not played :)

anyways regardless how you play it's all about the fun.
