This generation has the DS, making it the greatest generation ever. My new DS obsessions? Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor and Ketsui Death Label.

For those talking about the lull in RPGs, is this merely a problem you see on consoles or are you including handhelds? I figured if anything, the DS and PSP would make this among the best for RPGs, between all of the great remakes and original entries.

the Handhelds have been great to us no question about it. But we want to see them on consoles more its where they belong.

No I wasn't counting handhelds......

Including them, well that's a different story.

I think this Gen will end up being fantastic, the only problem is that the games that get announced dont come out for soooo long, and I think that its bogging this gen down, games like killzone 2, and mgs4, ffXIII, Infamous, Alan Wake & Heavy Rain. all took and some are still taking 3-5 years and most arent out yet, I think thats the main problem this gen, and also the length of these games are a problem for me personally, you wait all those years only for it to end in 6-8 hours!

I would describe this generation as highly transformational and under achieving so far...

Pluses:
- Killzone 2, Gears of War 2, Halo, Uncharted, MGS4, etc. are graphical masterpieces
- Online fighting games finally exist on consoles
- Gameplay improvements in shooters and sandbox games have been excellent
- Nice to see digital distribution of movies and games taking form
- Lots of potential in LBP, Banjo Kazooie N&B, Prototype, inFamous, Overlord, Braid, Gears of War, Burnout Paradise, Crackdown, etc.
- Motion controller will be a good thing in future generations if they get it right and complete
- My wife understands gaming more because of the Wii, Rock Band, and Scene It! (I don't get critized on purchases now)

Minuses:
- 360 RRoD WTF
- Wii - No Hard Drive available? WTF
- Constant AAA title delays (Killzone 2, Lair, Haze, Alan Wake, Too Human, etc.) and disappointments (Lair, Haze, Too Human)
- No console is a total package
- I think HD DVD was the more consumer oriented HD media format (Loved dual-disc with DVD and HD DVD on one)
- Blu ray hasn't caught on as a de facto consumer standard yet
- Integrating music downloads the consoles is so far non-existent
- Whatever happened to Sony's promise of 1080p gaming all the time?
- Nintendo and Sony have been slow moving on console price so I can buy one for every TV I own
- Sony dropping the backward compatibility ball
- JRPGs are all under performing in general
- I was hoping this generation would have more MMOs and they would be free to play
- Wii has way too much shovelware
- Too much attention falling away from core gaming to casual gaming

i love this generation, i have all 3 consoles so ive been able to play many super games on all the consoles, which are all great.

Some Top Games This Gen For Me:

Gears of War
Super Smash Bros Brawl
Call of Duty 4
Mario Kart Wii
Forza 2
Gran Turismo 5 Prologue

The only other gen I'd personally put over this one is the 32 bit gen. THAT was the best gen ever. Other than that, my main gripe with this gen is multiplatform games, there's too many, we need more exclusives.

Still this gen is my 2nd favorite.

Or the 64 bit gen Wink. ;)

Seriously though I'd say this gen is right up there with being the best gen. But like CGI here, I loved the PS1/N64 era. And also loved the Snes/ MegaDrive era. To be honest I cant choose out of this gen or the 2 I mention. They were all so good.

Solid gen, 4th and 5th were better though.

Pixel Art can be fun.

I think it is great, but next will be better because of what Nintendo has opened up. I think we will see innovation thrive with better graphics to boot.

So far so good. ^_^

Hmm... well, the 4th generation was the best for me. Everything was about making a good game. The sheer number of RPGs in this era made it even better. I personally would be content if the 4th gen lived forever. However, it clearly didn't... -_-

But this gen? There's not too much I can say good about it. I see it as another reset akin to the 3rd generation, but this time with the fanboys whining about change. Nintendo saw what happened pre-3rd gen, and I also could see some of the signs. Truth be told, if there is another crash coming up, I'm going to see this gen in a very negative light, since it was the generation that fanboys ruined the gaming industry with. It already doesn't have a good taste in my mouth, what with the lack of good RPGs thus far, and the emphasis many have on graphics instead of gaming.
