@kowenicki you want me to predict what dude? I already told you the 360 will probably sell 11 million this year, that's around of what I expect.

That's what it sold in 2008

VGChartz Hardware data for the period 06th Jan 2008 to 03rd Jan 2009:

Console X360
Total
11,119,806

Well I took 6th Jan to Dec 26

Console X360
Total
10,737,206

But it's OK, give or take a few days sales... I expect the 360 to sell around that for 2009, and by that I mean under 12 million.

well well well

what a thread

there are too many variables & what you see the Xbox 360 as

do you see it as:

Successor to Xbox, meaning, outselling xbox = xbox 360 is immune from being called an underacheiver ever

or do you believe

xbox 360 is at $199 = should sell far far more than Ps3....but it isn;t, hence underachieving

@legend...So the Wii isn't in a recession? the console sells for $200 for the love of God...

The Wii has much wider appeal than the Xbox 360 currently has.  I mean you're comparing the Xbox 360 to a system with sales that blow away the PS2's at this point in its lifetime.  Why not go compare sales of the DS and PSP to see how wider appeal can affect sales.  At least in this case the 360 has managed to keep its massive third-party support, has many games charting, and creates million sellers on a consistent basis.

@the

and for next year?

throw in PS3 sales as a barometer too... please.

I don't like throwing wild guesses around, but you're welcome to do that if you please. Next year is another story I don't have the first capital letter to start a sentence about it.

I expect the PS3 to outsell the 360 this year IF it gets a $100 price cut. Over 11.5 million PS3s. If it doesn't get a price cut at all or something convincingly equivalent then that's another story and I would expect things to turn REAL SOUR for the PS3 next X-mas. I expect the 360 to sell from 11 million to under 11.8 million by the end of the year, but if the PS3 gets a price cut and MS doesn't counter with something of their own, I doubt they will reach more than 11.5 million and will be outsold by the PS3.

I remember at this point last year that the PS3 was closing the gap and then there came the 360 price cut. Since then the 360 is the obvious winner between those two. I guess it's no coincidence that ps3 fanboys are on fire lately, they have nothing to seriously brag about and the game seems to be lost. Imagine another price cut. 360 will become the ultimate console value.

Anyway to sum up, pathetic analysis, you wrote that up so you could feel better and you expect people to take you seriously..?

Well some people are predicting that 11 million Xbox 360s will be sold this year.  The original Xbox only sold a little more than double that in its entire lifetime.  So what do you believe, is that underachieving?

It would be unfair to say the pricecut has been a failure when you compare the whole market, in the same period last year the Wii is down 1.4 million, the PS3 is down 1 million, and the 360 is UP 0.5 million. The 360 is outperforming itself, while its competitors are slowing down.

If anything this shows how effective the price cut as been, and that MS should consider ways to further cut cost, or offer more value to increase sales.

@noob_on_the _previous_page....the only pathetic thing here is your complete lack of ability to read and discuss something you disagree with in a civilized manner. Welcome to VGChartz and good bye!

@gebx, were you expecting the Xbox to continue to be outsold by the PS3 while selling at half the price of it?

a bit like the ps3 last year then... that had a major bump due to a price cut. and now its down... "duh"...

err, you're on a site called vgchartz with all the data at your hands and yet you forget about history so easily. The PS3 after the price cut OCT 2007 was still more expensive than the same price as the 360 and it was outselling it month after month since that month until the 360 got the cut on Sept04 2008. It was MORE EQUALLY expensive, see? It's not the same. The 360 is still cheaper and look at the numbers, nothing major, over 400K this year. And the 360 is not only cheaper than the PS3 this time, it's also cheaper than the Wii. Mark my words, the 360 is living the best of its days. Marked?

In all honesty it's really funny how people think that only the cheapest 360 sku is selling.  The Pro console has always been the primary seller.  The only time the Arcade sold more was directly following the price cut during the holiday months last year.
