Forums - Gaming - Do some games get higher scores simply because of their name?

Yes, Im sure lots of games get that extra few points just for who made it. It is rather annoying. However, you can just say hey that is a really popular company. I wonder if this game is even worth it. Hold off a little bit on buying it and ask a couple friends what they thought. AT least that is what I do.

I agree that ff XII did not deserve any high scores. I really enjoyed ffX-2 though. Probably more then FF-10 itself.

I also don't really understand why people still play GTA games... I've owned gta3. That game WAS GREAT. I've owned gta vice city and that game was even greater. But after that it just got repetitive man. I won't comment on GTA:SA as I haven't owned it, but I did play it a little while and it has def a lot more to it then vice city. But gta4 has less then gta:sa and a smaller map just because they had to sacrifice all of that because of fancy graphics. Graphics are great, don't get me wrong, but they should never interfere with gameplay.

Yes. Quite a few games often get higher or lower scores based solely on the franchise. This generation, we've also seen this happen based solely on the system they appear on.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

Come on, let's not be paranoiac... yes, sometimes it happens, but sometimes it doesn't.

You can't justify the high score of a game you dislike saying it got AAA ratings just because of its name.

I dont think people get paid for good reviews as much as they are fans of a series and want to see it do well so they give it good scores.

Reviewers know they would get virtual death threats if they panned any major name series. :p

Yeah, TC isn't even a big name and look what happened with Gamepro. If they would give a game like super mario galaxy 2 an 80 for example... Well, I wouldn't want to be that reviewer tbh.
