Forums - Nintendo - Wii Motion Plus in Japan: success.

The Wii balance board is in WAY more people's homes and support for it has been horrible. So why would they start to support Wii Motionplus?

It's harder to make a balance board game then a Motion Plus game. Motion Plus is just that, better motion controls. They can easily make a game that uses the Wii Remote more and has more control.

The bad thing is that there's no other game coming out that Japanese care about which will use M+.

Nintendo should have had at least 3 games ready for the launch of M+, now Japanese gamers will have to wait until next year or later to play a Wii M+ game. That's some very bad support, why launch a peripheral with no games? Not everyone will be interested in buying WSR, so they are losing a lot of sales they could have gotten with a couple of other M+ supporting games during the launch week/month of the peripheral.

HW sales could have jumped a lot with some more games.

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Yay =D
Nice numbers!

As more games demand the +, more sales will come. This is going to have longer legs than the awkward 8 footer in the high school basketball team.

trestres is right- the peripheral launched with no alternatives wo Wii Sports Resort. There are no other games on the horizon, so once again, Nintendo will have stunted its own momentum with a lack of software.

@Savior: Indeed, this is not a simple peripheral, but an extension to the WiiMote, it's much more important than the balance board, since it's a device that extends the motion detection. Such an important part of the Wii should have been launched with many more games, not just sports compilations. This way, mainly only people interested in Wii Sports were the target audience for this launch, while interest and momentum are in risk of disappearing by next year because there are no games coming up that support it that Japanese gamers are interested in.

It's not a peripheral, it's a better Wiimote, but Nintendo managed to minimize its impact by having no games for a broader audience. At least a new IP and a core IP should have been ready for the launch. This was Red Ocean strategy at its best.

Other software would have slowed down the sales of wii sports resort. Seriously, I think Nintendo is a lot smarter then some 16 year olds on a forum...

@Samus Aran: No it wouldn't have, Wii Sports Resort would have sold regardless, since it sold to the Wii Sports audience, you are just in shock and delusional, which is understandable from a guy who is clueless.

The idea was to move Wii consoles, SW is secondary and WSR would have sold regardless, as proved by the saes to old Wii owners only. More SW aiming for a broader audience would have ended in more consoles sold. I honestly can't understand your hostility, and it's even worse cause you are horribly wrong.

Actually... other software wouldn't have sold good because wii sports resort is too big and it would have slowed down wii sports resort aswell buy 1 or 3 sales. Why waste cash when it's going to be over shadowed by wii sports resort?

The fact is, Nintendo only cares about maximising profit and that's what will happen with this plan. You're clueless really, Nintendo did a market research on it and they made the right decision according to that market research. Now don't ask me for proof of a market research because that's what all companies do... Have you done a market research to see what brings the highest profit? If you can answer yes on this questen then you have me.

Ps: Most people will buy wii motion+ anyway for Zelda:wii. I expect 7-8M sales for that game only. Nintendo will start supporting wiimotion+, but they will wait to let wii sports resort do it's job first.

Not enough reasons for people to get a M+ besides WSR, which is only 1 part of the audience. The rest of the people didn't care at all as seen with new owners. This launch was a launch dedicated to Wii Sports users mostly, or at least that's how it ended being up, despite what Nintendo was hoping for.

Now, why would the remaining Wii owners buy M+'s for if there are no upcoming games at all? It's the issue of having to wait years what turns people off and reduces interest in the Wii. There's not a constant flow of SW to keep Wii owners interested and the peripherals seem more like novelties at the end of the day. If Motion+ is the device that is going to produce a better motion experience, then I can't see 3rd parties getting too excited because at the end of the day they will only have 1 part of the audience to work with and most will end up focusing in the WSR buyers. Same that happened with the balance board.
