Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo didn't innovate with the Wii they just reinvented the wheel

No there bein no trolling here, I was going through the videos of The Angry Video Game Nerd and came upon the NES accessory video, and never realized how many things many people see as unique and new had their origins in the NES era.

I mean everyone should know about things like the power glove, which for its time was like the Wii remote, but there are many other things like the rollin rocker controlling games with your balance aka the balance board.

There was a music game on the NES that could be called the origins of Wii Music it was the Miracle piano, yes it tried teaching you a little bit about music and yes it could be a noise maker if you cheesed playing notes at random to win the games.

There are a few more in the video and you could compare them to motion cameras and such but it's obviously really primative but it surprisingly worked.

There are tons of parallels between the NES and the Wii, took you long enough to notice.

So why did you have to ban angrypoolman?

"Trying to troll the Wii by saying you bought "Happy Feet" and now you want to "sell your Wii" cause you didn't like ONE game, it's obvious that you're trying to cause problems BYE"

^ i think he didn't like that thread very much :p

I have read this reasoning and also the thread, but he isn't called angrypoolman for nothing.

max must really like happy feet and the wii. There's also a chance he had a bad experience with an angry poolman as a child :p

Cause the thread was a complete mess?

OT:  I knew the parallels I just didn't know about all of the add ons for the NES since I began gaming at the end of the NES's era and missed many of these things and I see people everyday that act like all these new games and accessories are something that has never been done before when it's just same idea with new and better technology.

I had the power glove. It was not a failed idea. The numbers it sold yes, but you just had to practice a lot to be good with it and was actually fun.

Never heard of Mircale Piano. However, my favorite part of Mario paint was making music.

Zapper one of the best extras on the NES. Not going to say no guns did not have problems. But, me and my step brother could get perfects, so ya.

Power Pad was pretty fun, cant think of any bad to say about it.

Never seen the Roller Rocker. Idea is ahead of its tech time.

The U-Force. Never had it, never seen it, but wish I had. Punch Out looks really fun!

Thinks for the link. It just shows that even back then Nintendo was trying to get you even more in to the games.

Some of these things actually came from third parties and it makes me wonder why companies at least tried to innovate back then, even make their devices work with every game, but now if there's a third party add on it's typically cheap and only works for that specific game.  I believe people like something new and fun and to do that you have to take risks and it's sad companies are less willing to do so today :(

Man, I liked the U-Force thing.

Me wants (>'.' )>

Only third party things I can think of at the moment are, all the music items and that new workout camera from Ubisoft?

That guy is such a tool. My buddy had the U-Force, and the Power Glove. We both agreed they each were pieces of junk.

Well the real problem is that making a new third party attachment is not a huge way to make money save for rockband/gutar hero stuff. You need to have an attachment sell well enough to justify making games for it. That is why there are so many failed attrachments that never made it to the States or the West in general. There are plenty of kooky items that are used for game X but without a following for the attachment it will never catch on.l

I am very intirgued by the new Tiger Woods game. It comes with the wii motion plus for only 10 dollars more, as compared to selling the device for 20 by it's self. That is a winner of a combo that does a retail employe's job for him- assuming the game does not suck gopher nuggets. I have yet to read reviews.

and yeah, I delurked again. might fill in more later.
