Forums - Microsoft - Win7 is the future now. BEL7EVE

Edit: I think this offer is for those who want to upgrade from XP or Vista, and not for those looking to blank install.

I have just bought Windows 7 to go on my fairly new PC, which has Vista.

Win7 is available on Amazon, Newegg, and many other retailers now, as a preorder at over 50% cost reduction from what it will be when the software is released.

If you already have Vista, Amazon promises a quick and easy upgrade.

The Home premium version of the software is now on sale for just under 50 dollars. At launch, that software will run you over 100, as I understand it. In the worst case scenerio, you could buy a copy now, and sell it after launch. The 32 and 64 bit versions come in the same package, with 1 activation.

Windows 7 is basically Vista with much less memory usage, and many improved features. It is what Vista should have been, and according to beta testers, is is very optimized, more akin to Windows XP.

I'm not recommending anyone buy this right now, but I do think it will be an upgrade over the already pretty good Vista and Xp for gaming and in general, and if you plan to buy it in the next few months, preordering it is the smart move. It'll basically speed up your computers(like adding a gig of ram), and ordering now will save you a ton of money.

If you hate MS, buy it now and resell it sealed on ebay, make the extra profit yourself, instead of for MS.

Either way, this is the next big OS, and early reviews/previews are very positive.

What say you?

Say what> you can buy it now, but it isn't out in the shops yet? I'm really confused ....

There is a comparison of versions for easy reference.

I preordered the cheapest, seems the best value.

i am actually using win7. Much better, but looks just like vista, very fast and sleek. Still, if you have Vista running great and you are not a big gaming fan, i doubt you need this yet.

Preorder it, like a game, but in this case, if you preorder before a certain date, you get half price.

ugh no.

it vista make over.
installed on a celeron 2.53ghz 1.2gb ram with a nvidia fx 5500.
it ran slow and used most of my ram. leaving with only 100mb of boot.

had problems with AC 97 drivers (doesn't work well with 5.1 windows 7).

and Aero still clunky as ever.

while it a 10% improvement over vista.

i can run ubuntu with all the effects and never go down 50fps.

i am using ibm lotus symphony for office, netbeans for school proyects, banshee for music, firefox 3.5 as a power.

ps3 media server for streaming and even some windows applications with whine, i don't think i will have to return to windows in a while.

for gaming machine i think the desktop i built still faster in xp DX9 and steam.

Yeah, but I game a lot, plus it's only 49.99 if you preorder, so I picked it up at the cheap price. If nothing else, I can keep it sealed and sell it for a profit.

Oh right, sorry, half of what you said made me believe you were actually using it as we speak!

No sir, none of that is true. Those are malicious claims from a umbuntu fan, imo. All beta testers disagree, and even PSRock. Also, you pulled the 10 percent out of your ass, and to many, even a 10 percent improvement is worth 49.99, and also, almost nobody wants to use ubuntu.

Anti-Monopoly propoganda, imo.

lol, not yet, but some are in beta testing, like PSRock.
