So, its not going to hit the 3 to 7 million mark that the top exclusive fps on a console with an install base of over 50 million and a truely diverse audience of gamers would be expected to get?

If your comparing it to Halo then no the Conduit will not reach that high level gamers expect. But how many FPS on PlayStation or PlayStation2 hit the 7-million mark? or even the 3 million mark? Not that many my best guess is The Conduit will sell between 1-2million units during its lifecycle. Far exceeding fan expectations or VGChartz own 300,000 estimate!

Yeah, but if the goal of the blue ocean strategy is to take all of these non gamers and turn them into real gamers ( as was often said to be the case when the Wii was first released), then two and a half years into the Wii's lifespan when you have many of the system's better and higher-rated t and m games essentially tapping out at in the 1.5 to 2 million range while similar games on 360 and PS3 sell many more copies and Fitness and introductory Wii products continue to sell 10 million or more copies, then it seems like the Wii really isn't taking nongamers and turning them into real gamers (and the sales of games in other traditional genres also give some confirmation to this too  - the sales of Marvelous games and the fact that the system's highest rated game and a big budget title from Nintendo Mario Galaxy's sales come nowhere near matching those for Wii Sports and Wii Fit).

Good posts Amp316 and psrock.  Also, certain mods must not have some kind of unjustified biases against you as they do me because I don't see them banning you for just making accurate if somewhat hurtful to Wii fan's feelings because they are true statements like they often do me.

You misunderstand.. Nintendo's mission with Wii was to make it so that even non-gamers would like to play it. They wanted to expand the audience of gaming. They've already achieved that with Wii Sports and Wii Fit. They never once said they wanted to turn non-gamers into 'casual gamers' and then into 'real gamer' like you stated.

They simply want more people playing games and if you don't see Wii Sports and Wii Fit as games then that's sad for you I guess.. Nintendo have wanted to make gaming more accessible to the mass market with both DS and Wii and they've succeeded so far. Also if you haven't noticed these 'non-gamers' are buying into Nintendo's franchise titles:

Super Smash Bros Brawl has sold more than Melee

Super Mario Galaxy has sold more than Sunshine

Mario Kart Wii has outsold ALL previous Mario Kart titles

That's three off the top of my head but I'm quite sure it's the same all the way through the Wii library

Well, I certainly wouldn't want a lot of clones of them running around in the same amounts as their are lots of fps games, especially if Wii was supposed to start getting the vast majority of third party support, especially if publishers noticed they can sell 5 to 20 million copies of their fitness products on Wii while all the best fps games on the system (or other games like rpgs, mature themed titles like Madworld and No More Heroes, more artistic works like Okami, Fragile, and Muramasa, and solid traditional games like Zack and Wiki) have so far failed to hit or don't look like they will 1 or 2 million.

Okami sold like crap on the ps2. All the games you listed sell like crap on any console.

not official

If it sells 70k I'll be satisfied. If it sells 100k I'll be ecstatic. If it sells 140k I will be blown the fuck away. Now just watch Others come in and ruin the whole thing in a few weeks...

Like Samus Aran already pointed out, the games you listed would've sold crap on any console, in fact, Okami actually did, selling 220k on Wii and only 150k on PS2, the best selling console ever with an install base of what, 140 million?

NMH, Fragile, Madworld, Muramasa, Z&W... all those games are niche. They're different and stray away from what is considered normal and populair. They're just *not* mainstream.

Yeah, but many of them including Okami are considered to be among the best games out there, so how come they aren't selling like they are?  It used to be that the games that were considered to be the very best also had the very best sales.  Egs.  Most of Nintendo's big games, Halo, Gears, Final Fantasy and many others.

What you are saying isn't true either. Good games don't always sell.

And those titles you're talking about? Brand recognition. It's not as black and white as you think it is.

Surprise!

Zak and Wiki is a great game but not a "solid traditional game" it's a mixture between adventure, point and click and puzzles. Kinda difficult to seel (specially because "Teh hardcore" fear kiddy designs and cute sounds)

Pretty nice for a new ip :P
