Forums - Gaming - At current rate, PS3 may sell less than GameCube

Well at the current rate it is the case

"I could make Halo. It's not that I couldn't design that game. It's just that I choose not to. One thing about my game design is that I never try to look for what people want and then try to make that game design." - Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto

Hey Snesboy, show Leo-J some respect. He's the coolest PS3 owning kid in the U.S.

I think Leo-J is still sort of burnt out from his huge breakdown and he's tired of  ____________ (insert word here) Nintendo fanboys saying unlikely things as some sort of clouded troll attempt at almost every opportunity and getting away with it.

I mean, the PS3 couldn't logically continue its current rate, what about Christmas boosts? Plus, there will be boosts, even if small, from the acclaimed PS3 games, such as Final Fantasy 13.

Anyways, I have mad respect for Leo-J and I won't let you talk down to him.

I think the two main reasons the PS3 will easily blow past GC's (And eventually even the 360's) numbers are as follows:

1) Price cuts. If the $399.99 PS3 rumor is true (Which all signs point to 'yes'), then sales will pick up greatly from that alone. Whereas the GC was never expensive, the PS3 will benefit far more from price-cutting.

2) High profile games are not yet out. I'm still dumbfounded people are naive enough to write off a system whose top 3 franchises (GT, MGS, FF) have yet to release. Couple that with some new IP's that might take off, the GC was never in the same league as far as game diversification goes.

Yeah, and the Gamecube had a great launch. I thought it was terrible when I saw it in the stores, but Smash was enough to make me happy.

The biggest launch period game the PS3 had was Resistance, and that game isn't likely to become one of the highest selling games.

Well atleast not many ppl will miss the ps3, hahaha. :]

I am just taking in all the benefits of the console war.

Hey Hatchet...think you're kinda crossing the line a bit here?  Not sure this is quite the kind of discourse that's going to win you any points around here.

The Gamecube also had boosts from Christmas and acclaimed games.

Personally I would say it will pass the GC due to more scope for price cuts and a stronger brandname but nothing is guaranteed in this world.

Calling people ass-plugged fanboys is probably going to get you a warning at least =

I mean calling out snesboy as a fanboy, go ahead, calling him ass-plugged? There is a line, and you crossed it.

I'm sure the PS3 will sell more than the Gamecube.

Now the N64.... Thats another story...
