Forums - Gaming - How important is online for you in a game? Care only for SP?

I'm quite big on online. It's not a deciding factor on whether or not I'll buy a game, but it sure as hell gets me more for my money.

Around the Network

SP = 80%

MP = 20%

I enjoy online, but normally only play a very few titles online, almost all shooters. For me I'm normally focusing on the SP experience, unless the MP seems compelling or I'm interested in an MP only title (like say Day of Defeat or Team Fortress).

Also, I probably still play much more online on PC vs Console - mainly Valve titles using Steam.

Title's like Burnout, Motorstorm, GTA IV, etc. I've never gone online once.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Online is generally take-it-or-leave-it. A nice feature to have, but nowhere near a deal maker or breaker

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

For any competitive games, online is HUGE. For my tastes, this means almost all western games (anything Blizzard, shooters, stuff like Civ). Games like Super Smash Bros Brawl would be played far more if it had decent online. I only wish Mario Kart Wii had a 4p split screen online mode (some sort of team battles maybe).

Anyway, online makes it easy to find opponents for these competitive games. I can't be bothered to bring my friends over all the time for games like Mario Kart or Brawl (or in MK's case, 4p online would be even better). As for my western favs, like RTS and shooters... online is everything. I don't play these games for the single player experience. For MMO's like WoW, for example, it means I don't give a shit about PvE, it's all about the PvP!

Mario kart wii would be boring without online just like any fps that is just your typical fps... Rts games need online too because AI is too dumb to have fun with. I need a challenge in games and every game I played is too easy. Yeah, metroid prime 2 was too easy even though I died loads of times, still too easy. I wouldn't mind a metroid with a decent online tbh. It's not needed because I buy that game for its great singleplayer, but it would be a nice extra.

I mostly only care about the single player and co op experience since my favorite genre are JRPG's and I almost never play games online. I might try some more online gaming once Forza 3 comes out even though I'm not very good at racing games.

depends, if a game has online, ill try it, if its good that game will get more playtime than a singleplayer game (on average)

that said, i have alot of single player games that i would rate higher than alot of games where the online is the main component.

Online only matters to me to game with my friends and to meet new people from my friends that are on their friends list. That's from a social stand point but from a gaming standpoint well I only play Halo 3 online and sometimes some social games like Rock Band, Guitar Hero or Uno games. Other than that online isn't a intruiging part that is needed thats why I just buy those 1 month Xbox Live Gold cars for $8 because I really rarely need a 12 month subscription.

Yeah, I only play mario kart wii and Quake live online at the moment. I'll buy the conduit soon though and the only reason I'm buying that game is for the online. Singleplayer in that game is just an extra for me like any other generic fps. I don't understand why people hate online or generic fps all of a sudden though. Quake 3 arena is probably generic, but it's one of the greatest games I've EVER played. I guess it's not a really famous game though as I rarely see anyone talk about it here.

Generally single player is the most important aspect. I have gotten some games for multiplayer, but most of them local is the main reason. I've only paid for a couple of games for online play as the main aspect.
