Forums - Gaming - How important is online for you in a game? Care only for SP?

I have seen various games get praised for having this and other times I have seen games get knocked for not having this.

On some occasions I have seen games get praised in general and then when a sequel releases not having what it already never had it even gets knocked.

What I want to know is this.

Everyone who knocks and/or praises a game for features like this, do you do so because you really care and will use that feature extensively or do you only care for the single player experience and the single player experience only?

I have a PSwii60 and I do not pay for LIVE because I rarely game online other than a little Rockband 2/Guitar Hero 3 on the PS3 every once in a while, other than that I am strictly a single player gamer. Always have been and most likely always will be.

What about you guys? Is online a determining factor for you in purchasing a game or just like me you don't give a rat's ass about online and just want the best possibly 1 player experience the developer could offer you, even if that experience hurts online lovers?

Like you, I could give a rat's ass about online. I rarely have the time to play single player games let alone online ones. I do play MK Wii and Brawl online every now and then, but that's because online is free on the Wii. I refuse to pay for LIVE just out of principle.

I'm almost extinct kind of gamer. I don't play online... ever. Still can tolerate coop, but avoid competitive gameplay, 'cos I usually sucks at it :D don't have time and desire to master a game. Waste of time from my point of view and not enjoyable. Well... except for one game (guess, what?) ;)

Only game I play that is remotely competitive is Rockband 2. I used to play a bit of Killzone 2 but I died a lot more times than I killed people. When I see things like that I am simply not having fun.

I like to play where I know that only I am responsible for whether or not I win and/or lose.

Single player all the way! Give me some Super Mario Bros. 3  2-player in there too, but don't touch my whistles!!!

I dont play Online, im not a very competitive gamer , i dont like shooters. I also like games that have good storylines (RPG's mainly), and multiplayer makes Story unimportant.

I love local Multiplayer, playing Sports games like FIFA, PES , NBA and Madden and Fighting Games (street fighter or brawl)

So yeah i couldnt care less for multiplayer.

@Rol

Well, speaking of online in an SRPG. It would actually do wonders in a game like Valkyria Chronicles.

I'm strictly single player unless a game has a fun local co-op mode. I never play online, and only connect my consoles the the internet for important updates and downloading VC/Arcade/PSN games.

Depends on the game. In most cases, don't really care. Like most action, adventure or pretty much every RPG around. When i think of games that really NEED online for me, I think of Call of Duty, and perhaps a few fighters since I don't always have someone to play with. But a survival or ghost mode like in Tekken often does the trick just fine.

4 ≈ One

It depends on the type of game. For most shooters I want good online play as that's where I have the most fun and replay value. That said, I'm currently playing through Bioshock and the gameplay is unique enough with a interesting campaign that no multiplayer is needed. Motorstorm is another game where the online play improves the game (along with that rare feature -the split-screen multiplayer!). For other games I'm not too bothered by online play. RPG's obviously don't really require online play (although if one was implemented well I wouldn't complain). For games like uncharted I'm happy to play single player only so any online feature is just a bonus.

I enjoy online when added, but it's not a deciding factor if to buy the game or not.
