Forums - Nintendo - Why Hardcore wii games don't sell

I think that perhaps these games don't sell as well because people who play them are mostly core gamers and likely have modded systems? You guys think so?

The Wii owners are like Ewoks. The Evil empire will tolerate them but turn their forest moon into a secret base.

well the 360 is hacked and yet they do sell software.

even the psp was able to sell crisis core 2 million and god of war : chains of Olympus.

so i don't think that's the case, it's demographic.

core wii games do sell the good ones.

This

You simply need to look at Smash Bros. Galaxy The RE games, etc. Good Core games do well - they have to be really good though or they won't because most of the Wii user base is not core and rely on Word of Mouth which only spreads for really good games (ie. most people who've played SSBB will tell people they know about it and how awesome it is - IRL not just on internet forums, while games like Madworld, Little Kings Story, etc. don't get that kind of world of mouth coverage, as much, because they generally don't blow people away even though they are decent games)

Currently dreaming of: DKC4 or Sonic the Hedgehog 4 (classic 2D platformers) for WiiWare, Smash Bros. for DSi, New Super Mario World for DSi, a Wii remake or true sequel of Final Fantasy Tactics.

One down, hopefully more awesomeness to come.

because so far the "hardcore" whatever games on wii are just too weird and dumb to be taken seriously. I don't think that Madworld or Deadly creatures or HOTD Overkill would have sold millions on the HD consoles..heck I doubt that they wouldn't even sold on the PS2. Others like Dead rising are watered ports that wii owners won't just accept that easy.

Weird games don't sell. Period. No matter the console.

The good games do sell. Most of the games that don't are mediocre and not top notch.

No. They don't sell well because people make the mistake of calling every last niche Wii game "core," and set themselves up for disappointment.

Bingo.

Good games sell.

I think this thread has reached it's peak now.

How technical is your game?
