Forums - Sony - Valve 'up' on idea of PS3 development, waiting to bulid talented PS3 team

I'll wait for a game to be internally developed and then released by valve before I judge their capability as a PS3 developer, then I'll tear them a new one for a shit job or praise them as the gaming gods....it's as simply as black or white for me...so I'm glad their at least considering taking the challenge.

Wouldn't they have to make a new engine for the ps3? Because Source engine is old now...

When I was talking to a couple of DICE devs after a lecture about their work on ME, they told me that only two guys were working on the port for the PS3, and back then nobody had ported the Unreal Engine onto the PS3. Only one of them was a full time PS3 coder.

And didn't Infinity Ward have no trouble at all porting COD4 to the PS3? Also look at a more recent example, Prototype, it actually looks slightly better on the PS3.

So why do they find it so difficult to port their games? Pity it's only now that the draw of money brings their attention to the PS3, back in the days I played Half Life I thought they made games cause they liked making games. I'd actually prefer if they just stuck with the PC.

BOOHOOO!!! You gotta grow up man with this money nonsense. Any buisness needs this mentality to succeed. It's buisness!! Of course they like making games. They wouldn't be in this buisness if they didn't. Making games takes passion because it requires alot of dedication and constant learning. There's no prestige in making games and the money is nice but only if you're good. Any buisness needs a plan and a model to follow. Investing in places you feel will optimize your profits and match your profits with your efforts is just good buisness. Otherwise you won't be in buisness for long.

Please don't feel like Valve or any other company 'sold out'.

So you're paying full price for L4D2 then? ;D

Yup, absolutely no problem with that.

so may be they aren't lazy after all, why can't sony provide them wz the developers, i say one from each 1st part developer, that will make abt 30 person, and since valve employee dun exceed 70>>>>>> sony could aquire valve.

Load up HL2:Episode 2 on your PC with the graphics turned up, and tell me the graphics look 'old'. There is nothing outdated with the Source engine as it currently stands, all it needs is a developer to actually show it some love (not whoever EA pimped it out to) and optimise a version for PS3 hardware. I mean even Orange Box with its shortcomings still looked great, it was just the framerates that were sub-par (and the long loads, but thats not the Source engines' fault). Good to see Valve at least reconsidering their position of PS3 development, but its not a big commitment yet, as waiting to hire already experienced PS3 programmers is the fast, cheap option. But its probably the only option they have got now that they have left developing a PS3 coding capability so late in the piece, keeping in mind most studio's would have started PS3 coding development 1 - 2 years before the PS3 even came out.

Valve is too much of lame itself: officially confirmed?

I'll believe it when I see it.

No, it means that they are behind the learning curve and (gasp) don't want to slow down current projects to catch back up.  This sort of thing is done all the time - bringing in specialists with a certain tech or style (look at Nintendo and Team Ninja).  So in fact...

Your post is too much of lame itself: officially confirmed?

lol, I wouldn't be mentioning Left 4 Dead 3 if I were that guy...
