Fans of games grow older and lose interest. For example: an 18 year old who bought MGS on the original PlayStation would've been 28 years old when MGS4 came out for Ps3... 28 years old with a full time job, wife and kids, and no longer playing video games anymore... get it?

Maybe because "Gears of War" sounds the coolest? Think about it. They're soldiers. They are what makes a war work, and they are what keeps a war going. So long as there are soldiers, there can be war. Gears are also part of machines, and they help the machine to work. I'm trying to explain this as simply as possible for you, since apparently you don't get the picture. It's a pun. "Gears in War" would have ruined the pun and not made any sense. Also, it would have sounded stupid. Same for "Gears at War."

Montana is pretty much hit the nail right on the head. They are called Gears, they fight in a War. Hence. Gears of War, what's to complain about? It's a name. Out of everything people judge games in, a name is usually the very last thing people judge.

It is called "Gears" as a play on words concerning the word "COG" which stands for the "Coalition of Organised Governments."

Edit: For those still not getting it, 'Gears' have 'COGs' on them.

Fans had been calling to battle and ride Brumaks since right after the release of the first Gears. You cannot change a MAJOR scene from a game just a few months before release.
