Forums - Sales - Sinobi: Wii Sports Resort gives Wii hardware a 24% bump (21,000)

That's it?

I expected more.

Why do people feel this way? It is a sequel to a game that already sold a boatload of Wii consoles. The primary customer for Wii Sports Resort is people who bought Wii Sports. Therefore they already have a Wii.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

Several people were saying WSR wasn't going to boost hardware. I agreed. Would've been nice to be wrong though. Even still, the new colors and MH3 will be the big console movers. The Wii Sports fans already own the system.

I want to see what The Source has to say about this, and if he still believes Wii will be up YoY from 2008.

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

But Captain Rainbow and WSR are on totally different scales. WSR is a massive sequel while CR is some really weird niche game. I don't know, maybe they need something different like Nintendogs or Rhythm Heaven, but I'm not keeping my hopes up.

Although, maybe it'll increase the baseline for Wii HW. On GAF someone made a good point that Brain Training DS only bumped like 3k HW (26k to 29k) but the week after was 34k. We'll see what it does next week, etc.

I can see NSMBW moving some good HW though, but I'm more expecting MH3/Tales of Graces/Samurai Warriors 3/Super Robot Wars Neo/FFCC: TCB to help a lot more. Plus we should get some DQ X buzz when they show screens/a trailer (maybe they'll do a DQ VII remake as well?)

All I'm saying, is you can't say "such and such peaked" based on 1 game and espcially on 1 week of sales. The "causals" are typically not the people who rush out and buy the game day 1. Look at all the casual games and they have huge legs. For all we know, Wii sales could climb every week for the next 10 weeks. Would you then claim that the "casual" market has peaked and that they aren't buying the system?

All I know is anyone who draws conclusions from 1 weeks worth of sales is jumping the gun. Yes, I expected a bigger hardware boost similar to some of the boosts we saw for the PS3, but in no way do I see this as "there are no more 'casual' players left that haven't bought a Wii".

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

Good point. I think word of mouth can help these wii titles and it will have huge legs, meaning that the legs of the game will probably help sustaining higher levels. MH3 should give it a huge bump though.

More importantly i think that wii's lineup this holiday is pretty good, wii fit plus and NSMB Wii are huge games there, plus a price cut could pull the wii to high levels this holiday in Japan

^^ well u could say that first week sales were probably from those already who are into wii sports taht already own a wii. However if legs sustain(especially in japan) then it means that probably those who dont own a wii want the game, and therefore levels seem to rise slowly or are sustained over quite some time.

What i'm trying to say is to keep an eye on this game, we'll see how it does over the next few weeks

Whatever happens, let's hope the Wii can maintain a 20k+ baseline for the next three weeks.

The 4000 are the 'hardcorez' who have been convinced to buy a Wii now instead of waiting for MH3.

Give the 'casuals' a chance to hear about and play the game.
