The conduit is a game developed by the same studio that made the awesome games, “Dora Saves The Snow Princess”, “Ben 10: Protector of Earth”, and “Go, Diego Go!”. They have spent quite a bit of time making the graphics engine to squeeze every last bit of power out of the wii. The question is, is this game worth buying, or is it shit in a shiny wrapper?
Short Answer: I like the game, give it a rent, if not a buy.
Long answer:
Graphics:
This is the first point mentioning because it’s half of the draw of the conduit. It’s a game polished to a mirror like shine. I think the developers where sitting down thinking “look at all these shitty looking games on the wii, where they not even trying to make it look good?”. Then they think “We could develop the best looking game on the wii, and rub it in those other developers’ faces”. This game is an amazing looking game. Many Wii games (carnival games I’m looking at you) tremble at its mighty power. A lot of work must have went into all the detail they put into the game.
Gameplay
Campaign:
The Campaign is rather short clocking me around 7-9 hours (don’t know if multiplayer factored into the game clock or reloads). The campaign takes you through DC destroying aliens and secret agents. However the Campaign can get really hard at points, and that’s on the normal difficulty. There was a point in the second to last mission that I was ready to throw my wiimote across the screen. Also, this game has a bit too much of “Infiniate enemy syndrome”. There are 2 things that can spawn enemys, Conduits, and Eggs. You can destroy both of them, but you get in situations where the enemys are spawning so fast, it’s really hard to. Having said that, I enjoyed the campaign, bar the one point in the 2nd to last level.
Multiplayer:
I played a few multiplayer matches, and my experience was a generally good one. There were times when I saw a player “teleport” around, but those times were few and far between. There was virtually no lag in the matches I played, and it was an overall smooth experience. However, I wish I was better at the game. The most kills in one life was 6. But there where people in my games that got up to 23 kills. I can’t really fault it for that, but it would have been nice if I was better.
Controls:
Most people would agree with the statement that “First person shooters are best on a PC”. But most of us can’t afford a top of the line computer. The Controls for the conduit are as close as you can get to a PC game, without the ridicules prices. The point and shoot controls felt totally natural, and your grandma could probably play it (if not on normal, on easy). Almost everything can be adjusted, however I do have some annoyances. There is a non-functional button in single player, however you cannot do away with it. I.E. you cant have it your melee button. Secondly, there are times I shifted around a bit and found myself throwing a grenade on accident. You can change the sensitivity of the grenade toss action, but I still did it once or twice afterwards.
Feels weird to say, but the controls of the game make it that much more fun. You don’t know how awesome it is to snipe someone with the easy and precise controls. The controls can be customized more than most games, something I would like to see more in games.
Conclusion:
This game isn’t the best game, but I can look past its faults and find a generally fun game, that I think most people could play. The conduit has a great multiplayer component that will keep you coming back. This game Makes me think what could be done with the system if its capabilities didn’t cripple 360/ps3 ports. You know what I’d like to see. I’d love to see games like Bioshock on the wii with no graphical downgrade. But that won’t happen until Nintendo releases the Wii HD. But enough joking, The Conduit is a great game, and at least deserves a rent, if not a buy. I give it the seal of approval. If I had to give it a number It would be a 8 out of 10.
