That was kind of the point.

DGM also said that all bisexuals are lying perverts. He's racking up lots of points in my book.
| theshoe23 said: Argh, John Lucas, do you realize that the your whole original post can be applied to either of the other two competing consoles? Especially the PS3? I don't necessary agree with the troll, but I also don't agree with your post. The Wii is cool, and fun, but face it, it will eventually be over taken by one of the other consoles. I've said it once and I'll say it again, if graphics didn't matter we would be playing NEW games that look like Frogger. |
Actually I do. And I touched upon at least one of them when I mentioned the attitudes towards the XBox 360 last year. In fact I almost named this post "When did gamers become such complainers?" to reference the attitude so many of these types have taken on in the past few years.
You've never seen me complain and whine about the PS3 library and I don't bash the PS3 for not having a library built up yet. It's the 1st F'n year. It takes time to put this stuff up. While I comment on its ability to compete in the midst of strong competitors you've never seen or heard me bash the system for its lineup. I'm sure there's great stuff for the PS3 as well and you would have to ask the owners their likes and dislikes. Eye of Judgment sounds very interesting to me in particular, personally. And Little Big Planet looks to be worth a more focused introspection.
As for Wii being overtaken. Hmhmhmhmhm. Wii Fit. December 2007/Jan 2008. Super Mario Galaxy. November 2007. Super Smash Bros. Brawl. December 2007. Wii's not going anywhere despite the Halo 3/Bioshock barrage and temporary Japan recession. Graphics never won the fight or XBox 1 woulda been champ last generation. Power is for Tim "The Tool Man" Taylor not for game consoles. I don't know how this keeps getting forgotten every generation. Been this way ever since the beginning. SNES won more on momentum from NES than power and in some markets it was closely contested by a weaker competitor namely the Sega Genesis (which I enjoyed).
As for the graphics argument I explain exactly what that means right here:
Why graphics don't mean as much anymore
http://www.n-philes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22174
And you act like Wii's like a Sega Saturn in comparison to the competition when it is about 1/2 to 2/3 as powerful as the rest. PS3 is proving right now that power isn't winning the game and from most accounts the looks of the games on both 360 and PS3 are identical. So that point lives in Moot City.
As for the ones who say "as an owner you have a right to complain" I say this. You don't have to like or dislike anything but DO something about it rather than gripe because at the end of the day you're just wasting precious air from the lungs and not a dadgum thing has changed. I don't like the region locking. I feel that is the ONLY bad point about the Wii. But it doesn't affect me that much and if it did I would find a way to rectify the situation either by gathering a collection of people to persuade Nintendo to change this or making something of my own to bypass this like the one poster mentioned above. He didn't just complain, he DID something. That's all I'm saying.
I got sick of how WWF was going so I wrote the D'Lo Brown Master Plan and tried to get this on TV (and it did reach Jim Ross' desk, they knew about me. might have been closer to realization than I thought). I said if I couldn't get this on TV then I'll stop watching wrestling after 17 dedicated years of doing so. And I did. I don't keep up anymore and every now and then I may channel surf past them to see what's the happenings but I SURELY don't sit up and gripe just to hear myself gripe. I DID something. I DID two things. I tried to change it and then I stopped watching. And I don't hate wrestling, I just chose not to watch that particular program anymore.
Hey guys continue to comment. Let's discuss this further. I'm liking how this thread is going!
John Lucas
Words from the Official VGChartz Idiot
WE ARE THE NATION...OF DOMINATION!
So this is it John, very nice.
I do agree that the so-called "hardcore" that think there is no room for other types of games need to go away. They have always been catered to in this industry and always will be. They shouldn't fear casual games suddenly taking over the industry.
I am starting to see less and less of what you are talking about. The Wii has already exceeded everyone's expectations and people are more willing to accept the fact that it's kicking everyone's ass. Even with pathetic attempts, like dgm6780's, to debase the Wii, they are largely ignored since we've heard it may times before and they have nothing to back it up with.

I like this response, not as a constructive comment, but a comment more indicative of your point of view.
You are a fan of Nintendo and you doubt the Wii will be overtaken. Given the numbers, this is not unexpected. However, a thousand commentors each get on their soap boxes every day to spout their various views. Though usually they are incorrect, once in a while they are correct. Perhaps or perhaps not what is happening here; food for thought either way (what would you be saying were the Wii and PS3's situations reversed I wonder).
Now for a more interesting question: What would it take on the part of Sony or Microsoft given the current market to change this?
Is the Wii being defeated at this point impossible, inconceivable, or improbable?

1) Lower Price
2) More Good Games

You seem to have left out where John backs up his comment with some facts. Where as theshoe23 only said "The Wii is cool, and fun, but face it, it will eventually be over taken by one of the other consoles." And that's it, that's all I have to go on....face it? Okay, since he said "face it" I guess the Wii will be overtaken.
I highly doubt the Wii will be overtaken. If graphics were so important, then why hasn't it already been overtaken. The 360 already has games like GOW, Halo 3, Blue Dragon, etc. PS3 has Motorstorm, Lair, Warhawk...blah blah. Yet the Wii still continues to outsell them with its inferior computing power. Please give me reason to think that the Wii will be overtaken other than using the argument "but face it".

This thread contains my sentiments exactly. I am sooooo sick of the tired comments such as "Wii is a fad", "Wii is outdated", "Wii is for kiddies, grandmas, soccer moms". I wish some people would either use relevant FACTS to express their love or dislike for a system rather than blind fanboyism.
Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
Brawl FC: 0473-7449-8088
There's no convincing some people that it isn't a fad, and they do have a chance of being correct anyway. Sales could seriously die down next year...but it's extremely unlikely.
It's still selling well, and when big games come out this holiday season, it'll sell out again to be sure. That's just how holiday seasons go. And then next year has Mario Kart and various other Nintendo and 3rd party games to keep it going strong...they'd have to really screw up to slow down sales.
I don't think the Wii will slow down significantly. I think the only thing that can happen is the PS3 or 360 selling better and catching up somehow. That's the only way I can see the Wii doing "poorly."
Not trying to be a fanboy, I just see the sales facts and can't reasonably predict the Wii losing in the way many people say it will.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release. (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )
