Forums - Nintendo - Jeff Gerstmann reviews The Conduit (40%)

As bad as Gamespot can be and was they are better for firing this guy. His reviews were always horrible and they continue to be so it seems.

The very first thread I made on this site was on this very topic.  Oh, the memories...

I agree with you by the way.

Gerstmann was always a hack but people seem to respect him because he was martyred at GameSpot because they fired him under suspicious circumstances.  Of course, he may have seen the writing on the wall and manufactured them himself.  If you go back and read forums on some of his old reviews at GameSpot, you will see that there are many of them that gamer's in general just didn't agree with.  Not just on the Wii (although it is pretty obvious at this point he hates the Wii), but on other consoles as well.

I did not know that. Learn something new every day, I guess - but that's what I get for spouting off without being familiar with the body of someone's work.

@xlost8:

All right, that's fair.

Exactly. He was always a controversial figure, but he gained a lot of fame and respect for basically exposing the massive corruption within the industry.

It doesn't make him any better as a reviewer or a gamer, but it allowed him to remain a significant figure in his field

Truthfully, I think he was fired becuase he's terrible at what he does. He's horrible at writing. None of his reviews are well thought out and are boring. I think he just sucks at what he does.

Jeff Gerstmann wrote GameSpot's 9.1 review of WarioWare: Smooth Moves. He is by no means a Wii hater. He just has strange opinions at times (he wrote the WarioWare review just a few months after giving Twilight Princess an 8.8 =/).

From now on, every time I see a so called "hardcore" reviewer or fanboy who spews garbage like this, I will place this video in my post that perfectly illustrates their state of denial towards the Wii especially. Enjoy.

You do know that video was made back when eveyone still liked the Wii right?

They didn't change the locks on his office and leave a box full of his stuff outside the door simply because he isn't that good at writing.

No they did that because he pissed off all the people buying ad-space on their site. Which is the wrong reason to fire someone but it still doesn't excuse the fact that he has always been a terrible reviewer.
