Forums - Microsoft - Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction Xbox 360 Video - Stealth Feature

@Akvod

I'll never understand how someone can hate something so much but yet talk about it so much. And those that love it only say one or two sentences. This is so backwards that its sexy booty is turning me on.

Oh, OT:  looks like a fantastic shakeup of the SC gameplay.  This made my fall.

I loved the Splinter Cell series, 3 being my favoirte. I was really considering getting a 360 because of the game, but didn't because of FFXIII (big mistake lol), Bluray, GoW, and other stuff.

I'm just royally pissed off at how much Ubisoft butchered the series and just shrugged off the fans that built up the name. I guess I can sympathize with the RE people.

I feel used, like I was only used to build up that recognizable brand name, that'll just be used to sell something to a bunch of casual/non fans.

I didn't like the stealth mechanics in MGS4 at all, and it really pains me to see the only stealth game I knew to be butchered even more than Double Agent (which was horrible, especially with the buggy PS3 port). They've completely killed the meaning of stealth. They've went from a social stealth game they showed at 2007, to a pure action game.

And no, it's not a "action stealth" game (Although I do think they used that tag for the very first game). If you can go all out and just shoot people and take shots, then that is an action game. Why? Because a stealth game places you into an inferior character in terms of straight up combat, and you have to use stealth in order to compensate for it.

So even if you're going to use the Shotgun atachment, bash open a door, and do other non-stealth actions, you have to still use stealth before that or else you'll absolutely fail.

I'm mixed about the Tracer thing, as I'm glad that it's being used in the way I described (using stealth to suplment non-stealth actions), but at the same time I'm really wary of it. I mean, it completely does everything for you. Assuming that 2 targets is the maximum, you can kill through your way through most things. And adding to that you can take a good ammount of damage and shots. You can strafe around and effectively shoot.

It seems like in their attempt to go for the Bourne theme, and appeal to shooter, they made stealth only an "option", instead of being the requirement, and the gameplay, although it showed some some stealth, sooner or later became a shooting fest, although they did show Sam escaping through the window in those sequences.

I just don't like it, after all those instincts built up from 4 games of avoiding a fight and showing yourself at least, they just threw that in the trash and they're ENCOURAGING you, to go out and get into such a big shootout that a grenade blast will go through the window.

I am loving the look of this game.

@Akvod

Its not a pure action game. I'm quite sure if you run and gun in this, you're DEAD. Stop being so negative. This is Ubi Montreal. You know they're great.

MGS4 is still my favourite stealth game ever.

@Akvod

Try to think of it as what they call it: Stealth ACTION. In the bourne movies he has to be very stealthy but it's also very action packed and very suspenful.

That's the style they're really going for. Make you feel as if you were playing one of those bourne movies.

It also makes sense that you have to be more agressive. You are entirely on your won. You're infiltrating places which you think have answers and you need to find those answers with brute force. The enemy isn't just gonna give them to you because you got in without being noticed. At one point you have to confront the enemy.

@Akvod, I think I know what you are saying, though coming at it from a different angle, "hardcore" stealth games absolutely bore me to tears (personal preference, that is all!), but this game looks like a hell of a lot of fun.

Sounds like Ubisoft is trying to move the genre in a direction you aren't digging, I can understand your frustration at that.

I played the original splinter cells on xbox1 and the ones this gen. I loved most of them especially the first 3. 2 and 3 in particular. Among the best games ive ever played.

I'm a fan of the series and love this game. Maybe only you feel betrayed but i think it's because you're overreacting. Have some faith. \Some of those videos are of live gameplay from e3 as well. They use codes to make it easier so they won't die while showing the game off.

Like darth tigris said, if you attempt to run and gun you'll get no where in this game.

Hehehe! I want you all to wish me luck. I may die from dehydration because with this game plus Uncharted 2 in the same month I'm gonna be jizzing in my pants a lot!

If you watch the video, you'll realize you can only use mark and execute by playing with stealth. I think this mark and execute is also neccesary to advance certain difficult parts of the game.

They also wanted to make sam more like a real person. If a person is discovered, they're not just going to stand there. The person will make their best effort to survive and escape however and wherever they can.

It's closer to real life where not everything is cut and dry, not everything will go as planned. Things will go wrong and now they allow sam to improvise. Think on your feet, you're outnumbered and have inferior weaponry in a foreign environment. Still you have a particular set of skills to get you out of there and possibly still complete your objective.

Ubisoft montreal have given us the luxury of reaction. When our stealth fails, we don't automatically react game over. We simply react, get the fuck out of there and immediately do whatever it takes to reestablish the advantage of stealth. Just because you were discovered it doesn't mean you can't just as easily dissappear.
