Forums - Gaming - Could we have Amiga games in the games list?

I think I might bite the bullet on your argument, famousringo. I think putting up all those different "PCs" would make more sense than bundling the Amiga in as a PC. Could we bundle the N64 and Playstation together under the name "Game console"?

I don't think you understand the history of the Amiga, it was in no way related to modern or old PC's, it was a completely independent platform 100% owned by Commodore.

According to your logic if you can fit a usb keyboard to a console then it's a PC????

The Amiga was an independent platform that was related to the PC as much as the Wii is related to the Playstation 3.

He (she?) probably wasn't around during the infamous PC/Amiga/ST/Mac wars in mid-late '80s, otherwise he wouldn't be making such ridiculous claims...

On the contrary, I grew up on a Commodore 64.

I also know that the letters P.C. stand for Personal Computer and encapsulates an entire range of products beyond IBM compatible computers.

So you guys think we should just go ahead and add the PET 8, Vic 20, Commodore 64, Commodore 128, Amiga, Atari ST, Apple I, Apple II, Macintosh, Mac OS X, DOS, Windows 3, Windows 95, Windows XP, TRS-80, and God only knows how many other platforms I'm missing.

Or, we could roll tham all into PC for the sake of convenience, because these are all personal computers.

Edit: Oh, and no, consoles aren't PCs, because they're closed down systems optimized to run video games explicitly licensed to be run on the platform. PCs are designed to run whatever the hell code the owner wants to run on them.

Then why isn't the Playstation 3 regarded as a Personal Computer as I can tell you one thing, it can do a lot more computer related tasks than my Spectrum could!

I guess you haven't noticed that this site's primary purpose is to track the sales of game consoles, and PC games are an entirely peripheral concern. I think you're on the wrong site.

@ hammertime

You can hack linux onto just about anything with a processor, but it doesn't change the fact that the product Sony is selling you is designed to run only software licensed by Sony, with an explicit focus on video gaming. Intent matters.

Or maybe you're in the wrong thread...

DOS, Windows 3, Windows 95, Windows XP are not PC's, they are operating systems for PC's.

Everybody with any sense knows the Amiga, ST, PC's (386 onwards) and Macs are 4 different types of machines.

and I ask again, why don't you class the Playstation 3 as a Personal Computer, seeing as it can compute far more than C64???

famousringo - the Amiga was sold mainly as a gaming computer (not at first) with all games officially licensed by Commodore.

The Playstation 3 is as much a personal computer as the Amiga was? In regards to the PS3 - does it "compute" and can you personally own one? Simple question? In normal society, the term PC relates to 486 onwards IBM compatibles.

I have never heard in my life someone call their Amiga a PC or a Mac owner call his Mac a PC.

You're right. I should stop trying to explain why the Amiga isn't going to get added to the database. I'll leave it to the stony silence from the database and web site admins to explain everything.
