Forums - Gaming - Could we have Amiga games in the games list?

I don't think you understand the history of the Amiga, it was in no way related to modern or old PC's, it was a completely independent platform 100% owned by Commodore.

According to your logic if you can fit a usb keyboard to a console then it's a PC????

The Amiga was an independent platform that was related to the PC as much as the Wii is related to the Playstation 3.

I still have my Amiga, it was just so far far ahead of anything else at it's peak. Loved the machine.

@Hammertime

I think Lemmings was the first game I ever played! It was amazing. Lemmings 2 was also really good.

I loved Civilization on the Amiga but it always made mine crash half way through a game.

Rainbow islands - absolute classic vertical platformer. Did you ever play Arabian Nights? I loved that one.

Settlers and Cannon Fodder were obviously great.

Chaos Engine another one of my favourites - like Gauntlet , but with GUNS

Then there's syndicate. What can I say? Molyneux's best game in my opinion. This and a game called Heimdall 2 represent the height of Amiga achievement for me.

I also loved the charming Hit Squad title "Head over Heels" and I have very fond memories of playing the original Worms the very first week it came out.

The Amiga was definitely a very different platform to personal computers.

I bought my Amiga 500 back in 1988, graphically it was way ahead of its time - stuff like Star Glider 2 or Defender of the Crown was breathtaking, and far beyond anything possible on PC back then...

Did someone mention Head over Heels? I played that on C64 back in 1987, never played the Amiga rev...

I had "Head over Heals" on my Spectrum. At school you either had a Spectrum or Commodore 64, then when you got older you had an Amiga or ST. Those were the days, sometimes simply getting a game to load on the Spectrum tape drive was an a achievement that most gamers today wouldn't be able to manage lol!

I remember that Head over Heels was a C64 title first, but the Amiga version had beautiful graphics. It was a pretty challenging title, I thought. Took me years before I beat it properly, but I was very young!

Defender of the Crown really was graphically breath taking for its day, I agree. Anyone remember Shadow of the Beast 2? I think that game deserves to be recognized as one of the hardest ever made! Needed a guide to beat it even with invincibility cheat.

Haha, there was a simple ZX Spectrum emulator for C64, I always used to show it to my Speccy owning friends...

On the contrary, I grew up on a Commodore 64.

I also know that the letters P.C. stand for Personal Computer and encapsulates an entire range of products beyond IBM compatible computers.

So you guys think we should just go ahead and add the PET 8, Vic 20, Commodore 64, Commodore 128, Amiga, Atari ST, Apple I, Apple II, Macintosh, Mac OS X, DOS, Windows 3, Windows 95, Windows XP, TRS-80, and God only knows how many other platforms I'm missing.

Or, we could roll tham all into PC for the sake of convenience, because these are all personal computers.

Edit: Oh, and no, consoles aren't PCs, because they're closed down systems optimized to run video games explicitly licensed to be run on the platform. PCs are designed to run whatever the hell code the owner wants to run on them.

Shadow of the Beast 2? It certainly had a memorable intro! But the first one was really graphically breathtaking, too bad it wasn't much of a game...

You must remember though, the C64 was over twice the price of the Spectrum at the time. Most people I knew had a speccy simply because none of our parents could afford the C64 as 400 quid was a lot of money at that time. Interesting little piece from wiki which pretty accurately sums up what happened -

In Europe, the primary competitors to the C64 were the British-built Sinclair ZX Spectrum, BBC Microcomputer and the Amstrad CPC 464. In the UK, the Spectrum had been released a few months ahead of the C64, and was selling for less than half the price. The Spectrum quickly became the market leader and Commodore had an uphill struggle against the Spectrum as it could not rely on undercutting the competition. The C64 debuted at £399 in early 1983, while the Spectrum cost £175. The C64 would later rival the Spectrum in popularity in the latter half of the 1980s, eventually outliving the Spectrum when the latter was discontinued in December 1990.
