Forums - Microsoft - Can the Xbox 360 sell > 13M consoles for 2009 and crack 40M before 2010?

I think the main things here are GT5 (which is the ultimate system seller according to history) and the console price.

The console price has been the main factor that limited sales until now. Before last september, PS3 was easily outselling 360 worldwide while already costing more than the 360, so price is definitely the main factor. That's why I think a 100$ price cut could be so huge.

On the other hand, any new MS price cut would be more limited in impact since the console is already very affordable right now...

But you're right, only time will tell, and I could be wrong.

Well, I think everybody agrees that had MS not cut the price in half last september, PS3 would still outsell the 360 every week like it did before september (even with the PS3 costing more)...

So predicting anything is really hard. Everything depends on price cuts now...

This thread is hilarious.  I love all the predictions of the PS3 slaughtering the 360 in '08 with the release of GT5 and FFXIII, like this gem:

"It will happen in 08, with the line up they have outsellign the 360 by 500k will be a walk in the park.  While 360 will sale less and less as PS3 takes potential buyer away form it.

Gran Turismo 5 will literally kill the 360 in europe.
FF13 will significantly grow sales in Japan.
MGS4, Killzone2, GTA4, Resistance2, Socom4, GT5 and the US market is ni happy 360 place. "

Consoles Owned: Atari 2600, NES, Sega Genesis, Sega Saturn, N64, Gamecube, Wii, XBOX360

Yeah reading old threads if always a hoot

Well, actually, GT5 could still kill the 360 since it's not released yet. I doubt it will, but if it's released with a PS3 price cut, it will certainly be painful for the 360 sales...

I think most people just thought the PS3 price cut would come sooner. It's all about price cut after all, since that's the only thing that put the 360 in first place in wolrdwide sales last september.

It will be down until years end, remember the actual pricing started in September. Even now it can't outsell X360 2008 by a large margin, so I would not expect 11m+ numbers.

GT4 certianly wasn't a system seller.  Console sales did not seem to be affected in any region by the release of GT4:

Of course, you were probably speaking of the other iterations.
