Forums - Gaming - Will Tales of Vesperia be localized for PS3 or not?

Of course. But my point was that if the title is likely to sell similar amounts in both territories, why bring it to one but not the other, especially when it would be considerably cheaper to bring it to the region in question.

I don't see why it wouldn't be localized. Namco decided to localize Eternal Sonata, afterall. Look at that game's sales:

http://www.vgchartz.com/swlaunch.php?reg1=Japan&game1=Eternal+Sonata+-+PS3&reg2=America&game2=Eternal+Sonata+-+PS3&reg3=All&game3=&weeks=50

Its NA sales will pass up the Japanese sales in the next few months.

Much like Eternal Sonata, Namco could probably expect a similar amount of sales from a North American release of Vesperia as they could from a Japanese release. Why port the game for an extra 100k in sales but not bother localizing what amounts to only half a game for a similar amount? The costs of finishing the localization (continuing where the 360 version left off) are far less than those of porting the game, I'm sure.

Oh mm, ToV on PS3 will sell WAY MORE than 100K in Japan.  I bet you that 1st day sale will exceed that number.

The reason I am concerned about the NA release of ToV is because Namco seems to be very consistent with what they "claim" on the box art.  For example, Ace Combat 6 has that "only on Xbox 360" logo on both Japan and NA box art.  And Namco refuses to release it on PS3, no matter how PS3 owners begging for it (Namco will have AC7 exclusive for PS3, but that's another story).

Another thing is, how many copies of PS3 ToV will be sold in NA?  Does it cover the cost for localization and distribution of this game?  How would gamers justify to get a $60 PS3 ToV vs. a $30 Xbox360 ToV.  Yes, the PS3 versoin will be better and has bonus contents.  But I don't think the "general" gamers in NA will care that much about it.  The culture here is very different from Japan.

Let's face it, HD RPG lovers who doesn't own a X360 like you and me are the MINORITY in NA (thanks to Microsoft for moneyhat).  The more I think about it, the more I feel ToV may not come over here.........  Snap, the worst scenario, I will get the Japan version :)

It (PS3's market share) might hit 30%, but definently not more. ~ Neo

I'm still not sure what to think about this yet, I think it's chances of getting localized are decent but I still have some doubt. Namco's Tales localization track record is an odd one. I know some hindrances prevented Symphonia's PS2 english release and they've skipped some games on the PS2 and DS, but I don't think that's the case with Vesperia PS3. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

for symphonia.

nintendo owned the rights for the english version.

since they localize and made promotion.

for vesperia thats not the case.
the only reason to not bring it over, its namco being lazy or someone paying so it doesn't come.

the game will nice sells from japan anyway. those that wanted tales of vesperia in a high quality console now can.

though the game is unlocked for the ps3, u can import the japanese version which may include english audio.

I would be surprised if it doesn't sell AT LEAST 150k day one. the only reason it *might not is because its a port, but its a port of a perfect JRPG. As for NA...I doubt it will outsell the 360 version...but it will still sell a fair bit.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

You have to remember that unlike last gen Japan isn't as reliable. I don't think they'd want to put it all that effort adding in all that stuff if it'll sell like...200k more (?) when they can release it overseas and get more sales.

If Eternal Sonata PS3 came over, ToV PS3 will too. If not then Namco are retarded.

Well that's the main issue here :) They didn't even release Soul Calibur IV in Europe themselves.

if it doesnt get localized.... which would be idiotic btw.... you can always import it due to the PS3 being regionfree.

 Consoles: Wii & PS3.

Meh, I want to play this co-op and also my reading skills are crappy so it would take additional 10 hours -.-

"And yet, I've realized that maybe living a "decent" life means you won't ever have a "good" life."

ToV 360 did not debut well in Europe and the US version is already out of print and still cant sell out. I would be surprised if a ToV PS3 makes it to the West.

LOL! Didn't know that. Namco are failures.

Well it's more or less true for all Namco games - afaik all of them are released through partners (like atari or ubisoft). Which means problems for RPG lovers due to genre being so small.

What's even more funny - while Namco video games division didn't notice video game market exists in Europe the Namco Bandai producing plastic toys is just opening representative office in Poland.
