Forums - Gaming - Convinced - $399 PS3 coming in October

Tomorrow's profits are > todays costs.

Simple rationality.

Yup, they are damned if they do and damned if they don´t... can someone please post the  "between a rock and a hard place " scetch from the Simpsons movie ?

Its not gonna happen. If it does Sony is done this generation plain and simple. Shareholders have already pitched a fit about the loses on the PS3 thus far. Removing $30 to $40 worth of hardware and dropping the price $100 will cause a shareholder revolt. Not mention any dramatic price change they throw out their can be matched by both of their competitors. The key difference is that unlike Sony they will be making a smaller per unit profit instead of losing near $200 per unit. The only thing a $399 PS3 will do is push the 360 into a mass market price one holiday season earlier. Given the superiority of the 360 lineup they'd be doing MS favor by helping them push even more units.

1/ this may give MS reason to drop prices by another $50 (or $100? nah...) a week or two before Thansgiving - electrifying sales.

2/ The Wii software lineup

1 - If they did that they wont post a profit for the first time ever, investors wont look happly at a decade of losses. Ms cant spin a decade in the red.

2 - Is week, two great games from Nintendo and the rest is mediocre or unproven ips.

2 - I love how people bash the Wii lineup for being "unproven IPs".  So because its has new ideas its a weak line up? Honestly I don't think you have seen the Wii's lineup, or if you have you only looked at it through the lens of what you enjoy.  Plenty of folks are very excited about the Wii line up even if you aren't.

@Sqrl

Funny thing, you never said that about the ps3's new ips,

These are the exact reasons I gave for another price cut a week ago yet everyone ignored me. Sony needs the ps3 to do well, to win both the system and format wars. With how horrible sales have been lately, they need to do something. A price cut is the only logical option.

I will not complain about that.

 I never bashed them for being unproven either. Whats your point?

Soriku your honestly the biggest idiot on here, have the admin check my ip if you want.

@soriku

Sony is desperate for what? Giving gamers what they want for a reasonbble price. And thats what being market leader is about.
