Forums - Sales - How much will Halo 3: ODST sell FW, End of 09 & Lifetime?

Just a few questions about the multiplayer. I read on wiki that the MP will be basically identical to Halo 3, so will it be compatible with Halo 3? And does it have any new MP features to bring people across to the new title

ODST will have it's own Mp Mode...And It will bring Halo 3 Mappacks....

There isn't actually a ODST multiplayer.  ODST just comes with all the Halo 3 maps ever made plus 3 new ones.  But they do have another multiplayer mode called firefight, which will be like gears of war horde mode.

So can you just play the Halo 3 MP from the ODST disc? Anyway, I think about 4m probably, as most of the sales of Halo are for MP, so I think most owners won't bother gravitating over

Hmm, I think people into Halo MP would get ODST just from sheer fanatacism...if not the Reach Beta.

Now, it might only sell 4m...but everyone who is really into Halo MP is gonna buy it, make no mistake.

Well the relatively poor sales of Halo Wars compared to the all other Halo games says to me they are not that fanatic about the name, more about the multiplayer, and with nothing new being added to that, and the fact that they want to just to play the game with their friends, who all have Halo 3

Execellent comparison....Becuase all other Halo games are RTS games....

SO Halo 3 does not sell 30k+ every month?

You do realize that halo wars sold fantastically well for an RTS don't you?

If it is heavily advertised ODST may get around 3 M FW and 5-6 by year end.

I don't want to speak for Munkeh, but I think he was pointing out it sold poorly for a game in the Halo Universe.  A small numbers on fans on this site mistakenly thought MS could slap the Halo brand on anything and sell 5 million units.

I have a question about OSDT, if I don't have Halo 3 can I still play Halo 3 MP through ODST?  How long is the sp campaign, it was originally announced at 4 hours, but E3 seemed to suggest it was more like 7 - 9 hours?  How long was Halo 3's campaign?

No console RTS would sell 5 million....The Genre is not that big on console...Maybe not even on PC....It outsold Killzone 2 in 4 weeks and KZ2 was on it's 5th week

I wouldn't factor in Halo Wars, when making my prediction. Just my opinion. Online multiplayer fans....are actually smart. They aren't your average videogame consumers.

Smart? Seriously, what is the steroetype Halo fan? Anyway, I would guess many of them would upgrade, but can people play ODST against those with 3?

If you're hip enough to play halo 3 online consistantly, then you are "in the know" enough to realize that a game is an RTS and not a FPS, and you won't be sold by a damn name.

Unlike, for instance, casual gamers, who might not realize the difference.

Like you said, the target for this game is the online MP crowd. These people talk about halo 3 all day long, online, with other gamers. They will know about the Beta, and they would also know that Halo Wars is not an online FPS.

Maybe I said smart, but I meant "not ignorant of the halo franchise" which someone told me(I'm not going back to look, may have been you) that Halo Wars was an accurate representation of the halo IP's selling power.

Wrong.

Halo is about online multiplayer. People who play online multiplayer Halo, know the difference between Halo Wars and Halo 3, in great detail, and they probably won't just buy anything with the word Halo on it, just for shits and giggles.

If you are asking me if I think the average Halo 3 MP addict is more knowledgable about gaming than the average Mario Party entheusiast? Oh hell yes.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

To add to Zen's post..I know this is a good site and a good forum..But don't pretend this is the only forum where gamers come to talk...In fact....for most of you this is a refuge of sorts....

You do know that the multiplayer aspect of the game is fire fight. It's not gonna be an epic multiplayer like the multiplayer in Halo 3. Granted you are also getting a shit load of maps that you can play when you put in the second disc. Now while this firefight mode is not as big and complex as Halo 3's, I still think that it will add a new kind of experience that the gaming community will be playing for many many years to come.

Thank you Kowenicki

PS3 will need to outsell 360 by:

444,931 per month to catch it by Jan 2011. 102,676 per week.
266,958 per month to catch it by Jan 2012. 61,606 per week.
190,685 per month to catch it by Jan 2013. 44,004 per week.
148,310 per month to catch it by Jan 2014. 34,225 per week.

Current rate is:  -18,262 per month
Avge over last 6 mths
Negative number means 360 is outselling PS3 by that amount per mth on avge

First week - 1.5m

End of 09 - 3.5m

first year 6.5m

ODST will sell 3 million first week. 4 million by the end of the year and 5 million ltd.
