Forums - Sales - I figured out why New Super Mario Bros. Wii will sell more than 20m copies

Nintendo is so stupid. They could sell twice that amount if the game had "party" in its title.

But the Super-less Mario Kart has better sales than the Super Mario Galaxy. And Super Paper Mario sold much worse than Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games!

Mario Kart Wii sold more than Super Mario Galaxy because the word "Wii" leads to the highest sales, I thought that would be obvious after reading the top sellers list and the explanation below. Read more carefully.

As for Super Paper Mario: it's quite obvious that the word "Paper" is dragging down the sales of the game, evidenced by sales history. Everytime a "Mario" game had also "Paper" in its title, the positive effect of "Mario" got limited significantly. Out of the three Paper Mario games, Super Paper Mario sold the most units, obviously because it's the only one with "Super" in its title which as I outlined in the OP leads to more sales than "Mario" alone.

Ah! Well that is obvious in hindsight. You should add that rule to the OP though.

Really, think before you post.

If I did that, I wouldn't post much.

I actually think this game has no chance to even outsell EA Active.

wow....I honestly think roll...is right!!!!?

What the hell is up with some of you people? Can't you understand the simplest things?

Look, adding "Party" to the title decreases the sales potential of the "Mario" name. It has always been that way. Just compare any Mario Party games to the Super Mario games on the same console, they always sold less.

The Mario Party games sell less because they don't have "Super" or "Wii" in the title. Try to keep up, Rol.

In order to achieve maximum sales potential, the game should have been called "New Super Fit Mario Bros. Sports Kart Party Wii"

lol, good one

Wow.

I had to reread it A LOT, but this was brilliant.

I could see the 'New'- NSMBW bringing the sales down though; look at that DS game.

I think it will only go to around 18.56m now.................

1) Nope, there's no indication that "Party" is helping the sales of "Mario" games, but there's plenty of evidence that the addition of the word "Party" leads to lower sales of Mario games, just like "Paper" does (even "Super" didn't help Super Paper Mario to gain a lot of sales). So why would any sane person suggest to add a word to a title that has proven again and again to decrease sales? You are posting absurd stuff.

2) Incorrect. People don't tend to buy games with ultralong names. They are confusing and people don't know what they are getting into, so they stay away. You would be a horrible salesman.

Yeah, look at Dead Space............or Brain Training in Japan.
