Forums - Sales - Is the Sony marketing machine (of games) broken...

I have to say a yes...

Top multiplats sell in fairly equal percentages (considering install bases) on both 360 and PS3 - FPS, Driving, Sports and Fighting titles... they all sell in very good numbers.

Decent exclusives sell in bucket loads on the 360

Decent exclusives seem to underperform on the PS3

I dont buy the pious "diverse demographic" otherwise the multiplats would also suffer.

KZ2,  Res 2 and InFamous have suffered partuclarly from this it seems, in the case of KZ2 and Infamous very good games, that were well received critically (clearly) and yet not exactly going gangbusters in sales.

KZ2 sales have stalled at 1.7m way below expectations, even of the level headed sony fans here, and InFamous needs to pick up or could see less than 1m.  (of course these figures dont count any bundling that could take place)

Sony are relying on brand power and are letting their excluisive developers down, they need to start marketing these games much better.

Thoughts?

KZ2 hasn't stalled... according to VGC, the last set of sales was around 28K for a single week. The game came out in Feb, that doesn't sound like a stall to me.

InFamous is moving faster than Uncharted, which hit 2M b4 bundles. It's moving faster than Heavenly Sword, which is a million seller [1.4+].

Their marketting is poor. It's pretty obvious... The sorta tried for LBP I guess though.... but mainly in EU...

@OP : Nice troll joke thread where you're answering your own question in the first post.

In the real world though, PS3 sells well since sales are on par with 360 worldwide with a twice as high price, quite an achievement in one of the worst recession ever.

PS3 sold more than 360 worldwide on the same time frame from launch too.

So no, Sony marketing has no problem right now.

Speaking as a UKonian the Wii and 360 both have very goods ads. In the case of the Wii they manage to convince you it is fun for all the family with lots of interaction on screen(The Redknapps). The 360 does a mix of normal fare game ads but also the ads that show off the features. What I have not seen is anything from Sony that does something similar in fact I see next to no advertising at all. Now obviously this is the UK and not the world but if they are doing this bad a job in the UK you can bet your bottom dollar they making even less headway in the US.

Also the price point I think means that a lot of kids who would be buying and playing games have been left out. The people buying the console at the higher price are not necessarily going to buy lots of games. In addition you have Blu Ray only purchases and freebies as part of TV deals etc etc all leading to further fragmentation.

Resistance 2 is better then Killzone 2 so why are you shitting on it again?

Please for gods sake tell me your joking.

yea working at gamestop its not so much marketing but recession, and with the sales of the ps3 console ppl want em just dont have the money, and for a fact i can say that 3 of 5 of our 360 hardware sales are ppl replacing broken systems.

If 3 of 5 of 360 hardware sales are people replacing broken systems like you say almc, then PS3 is already in front of 360 in installed base (or close).

That could explain why multiplatform games like SF4 or RE5 sold more on PS3 despite the supposed install based gap.

^^ you 2 are so dead......360 fans dont wanna hear that shit ya know.

like i said its our store numbers and yea the ps3 sales are doing very well compared to 360, giving 360 had 2 years and is at lower price

Thats one thing i hate though ppl bringing in broken 360's and having to tell em to call microsoft and half the time they just trade em in for an arcade instead of dealing with the hastle.

If you are going to take that position, then you must also believe that many people simply bought the PS3 as a blu-ray player, since multiplatform games like Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto and Assasin's Creed sold more on the 360...........correct?

Engaging disbelief drive...

360 now reported to be in excess of 50% failure rate at some blokes store. Finally some solid proof.
