Forums - Sony - PSP-3000 & PSP-Go ( Side By Side )

why would people keep thinking Sony will drop the price of PSP Go soon?

Because analists, and our own common sense, told us that this one won't sell well at this price point, and they will be forced to drop the price soon.

This isn't a new sku, this is an expensive console redesign. Sony will drop the price, because if the redesign sells more, it is nothing but profit. It costs less to manufacture than the old PSP. Sony wants it to sell well, because it gives them more profit. The initial price is just to grab the early adopter market. In one year from today, we'll see that thing at 199 or lower, imo.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

A. Smaller screensize-Makes it more portable.

B. No support for UMD games-Its DL only.

C. No UMD drive-Same as B.
D. Double the price-No it isnt.
E. No conceivable advantages whatsoever-More portable(DL only).
F. Sliding hinge will inevitably break, needless moving part-You know this how?
G. STILL doesn't protect the screen in your pocket-PSP cover comes with it.
H. Have to rebuy your games-Not if its your first time buying a PSP.

screen size is the same?

PSP Go!'s screen is a little smaller but there's not too big of a difference.

It's half an inch. 4.3" down to 3.8." That's not a small loss, but if you are using it more for media than games it's fine.

If you are using it for games, this is unquestionably a downgrade, but as a portable media player, it's a signifficantly better value than say, an iPod Touch.

meh, not better in anyway to the current PSP other than portability. No new innovation. If only they used an OLED screen, it might bring up the coolness factor. How am I going to play my current UMD library? Why do I have to get rid of my MS Duo for the MS Duo Micro flash memory? Not worth the money IMO.

I think it is obvious that moving parts break more easily than no parts at all. Any moving part will eventually break. It might last 100 years, but it will break eventually. There is no need for one here. It doesn't protect the screen, so why have a sliding hinge?

Also, why do I have to prove that you might have to rebuy your games, lol? I think you are being very naive if you think Sony is going to replace them for everyone absolutely free.

You ARE losing screensize.

Saying it is more portable...is damage control imo, but maybe some people would sacrifice a larger screen for portability, so I can concede that point.

As for the price doubling...it's close enough.

You lose screensize, a UMD drive, and gain nothing, yet you pay more, for slightly arguably increased portability?

Again, why not buy the superior older model? What is better about the Go, besides marginally increased portability, that is worth the extra price? Especially after all you are sacrificing?

I understand attacking me, but all I'm saying is the truth. Believe me, I am helping you, when I recommend that you buy the older model instead. You are getting ripped with the Go, as an early adopter. Frankly.

Nice to have a choice, isn't it Zenfolder?

I would wait for all the kinks to be fixed. Hopefully there will be none :)

Everyone needs to play Lost Odyssey! Any opposition to this and I will have to just say, "If it's a fight you want, you got it!"

Well they have already reported to be working on an exchange program for those who want to trade in the UMD to a digital copy.

The price difference is a 68% increase. The screen reduction is 12%. You say the price is "close enough" to doubling when you are off by 32% there but the screen reduction of a mere 12% is huge. Please don't make me ban you for such silliness. If you are going to be biased at least be consistent about it.

As I noted above, the Go is absolutely not better for gaming, but is perhaps the best value of a portable media player on the market.

@Zen

If Sony had replaced the PSP-3000 with the PSP Go than some of your points may be valid.
As it stands though, the old model is stilll available and the go is aimed for a different segment of the market.
