I wouldn't buy any console now, the next generation is closer than most people expect.

sigh....it's sad to know that this may actually be the case.

i would love to know how you think this?

By the lack of contrary evidence.

Until now, every console generation lasted 5 years. This one is 4 years old.

I can't see any special reasons why people will keep buying the current generation consoles for longer than usual, only the companies wishful comments about how long they want to keep them on the market.

guess your pretty blind then...

people buy new systems because companies put them out.. if the current gen is supported till 2015 with games like GeOW3, ff15, uncharted3 people will buy them. If there are no new consoles buy 2010 you think sales of games and consoles will dry up becaue gamers want new systems?

Thats false.

What will happen is that every system will be under 100 bucks and game makers will be happy that ps3 360 and wii have a userbase of about 70 million each.  (i know wii will have a lot more then 70 but you get the point) also with middleware already created for each system games will come out faster and look better then ever.

With the world how it is and how much money it takes to release a new system everyone wants to keep there systems out for a long time. it would be in M$, sony and nintendos best interest to keep systems out for as long as they can.

Dno - Speaking of devs. the cost to make a game already is extreme. I don't think devs are in any rush to start making a new generation of games. I don't expect devs to stop supporting this gen anytime soon. This one piece of evidence suggesting a longer console gen.

Another piece of evidence is that the 3rd place console is going to outsell the second place console of last gen in its 3rd year.

Alterego just neeeds to take a breather and think about what exactly he is saying.

right.

the cost of next gen ubi soft was saying could be around 60 million a game! no way anyone is releasing a console anytime soon

Ok firstly the PS3 is getting a $100 dollar price cut in september, and a slim version will be released. Second, Sony will never drop out b/c it has the biggest and best first party titles. Third, the PS3 is getting the most AAA games in the next 9 months, more then 360 and wii. No need to say no more.

I think people are just so quick to write off the 10 year plan because of whos saying it. No where did Sony state "We will be the only ones to do it" but some how everyone is translating it that way. they are pretty much saying they think the 360s life will end prematurly.

PLAYSTATION®3 is the future.....NOW.......B_E_L_I_E_V_E

Seriously, any comparison with Dreamcasy is silly. Didnt DC sell like 10 million units?

The PS3 is a 60 million seller.

It never hurts to put a IMO.  Also Sony do not have the "biggest and best" first party titles, that title belongs to Nintendo in my and many other non biased individuals opinions.  I seriously doubt the PS3 will be getting the most AAA games in the next 9 months too but carry on with your delusion.

is bright...more great games yet 2 come...
